Building in front on my character
Hi,
Everytime I want to build a deck by the water, for example, I get a hard time to build in front of my character. In other words, it is almost impossible to build something at your feet if there is no ground (or the ground is 1 floor below). The way the camera work makes so you can't see the face of the object on which you stand and wanted to connect and put your cursor on it.
I was thinking that maybe it was by design for "realism" purpose since in real life, it is quite hard to build something that is cantilevered in front of yourself, but I doubt this is the case, since you can easily build something that is cantilevered from the ground that is 2 or 3 floor higher. So much for realism.
It feel kind of weird that this have not been adressed since the release. Building is an important aspect of Valheim and anyone that build something more complex than 4 walls and a roof quickly face this problem.
I know that you can make it somehow work by building temporary platform or working from a boat, but it feel more like a workaround to an unadressed ergonomic problem than anything else. Is there something I miss that can make it easier?
Thanks!

Yeah, Also We meat again. Another thing you could do. is Build a cart and just roll it into teh water. Still allows you to build and even walk to where you want to go in the water You can place a wooden beam normal or log sticking out half way.
That way you can walk out "in front" of the extended part to place new ones, once you have one in place you can snap the row to the side of the first one.

There's another trick as well. Placing a floor piece out away from you on top of a previous floor allows you to snap a second piece to the original merely by having the cursor on the second floor.
So it's like creating 2 floors just to get the first ones to snap. Of course you still need structural integrity to be able to build out far enough.

Hoping to see some helpful tweaks to building in future patches. While it mostly works we still need tricks as have been mentioned by the other posters here.

another little trick i've found to be incredibly useful. if you're trying to snap to a face that is too low to point your cursor at, sit down and often you'll get low enough to correctly snap.

Damn! You can place a wooden beam normal or log sticking out half way.

It is so simple that I am almost shocked that I didn't though about it earlier. It cannot try it right now, but it should work perfectly.
Thanks!
