Treasure chest (craftable item)
I was thinking it make no sense to have a treasure chest which can't hold any treasure at all, so I was nearly to add a thread into Suggestions & Ideas but, maybe, it's me not taking the meaning of why they added such chest which is not usable to store anything at all. Any reason you know it have been made that way?
Wiki reports only "Despite their name Treasure Chests are purely decorative items; they cannot be used for storing items like other kinds of chests." but don't tells why.
Not that it's such BIG problem: just curious. Looking at that chest the first time I thought: a good place where to store gold and other jewels, maybe with more slots than the usual chest (maybe also limited to such items, to store into, not for the general use), but no, "cannot be used..." meh...

This ties into similar suggestions to allow rock and wood piles to act as containers for a limited subset of items. It would be a generally useful feature for the game engine.
It is a feature already. Again, the christmas gifts were containers, so we know they can do it. Its just a matter of where to spend the dev time. On a scale of 1-10, this is probably a 0. however on the effort level, its probably a 0 there too -- possibly as simple as changing 'iscontainer' to true and 'num_slots' to 20 or whatever.

Was thinking at something like that, yes: all chests' mechanics are already in place, the same as, if they want, the "secure chest" (personal one), slots and so on. Don't know if it needs code, to allow an item only (coins) or it's just to configure the "master object" to accept them only, but it seems nearly-to-zero effort to me too. possibly as simple as changing 'iscontainer' to true and 'num_slots' to 20 or whatever.

Personally I view this as not a bug or problem.
I find it silly that a decorative that a LOT of players were happy about suddenly becoming a chest to hold things. I personally would like more decorative things.
I find it further amusing that someone said it should have more slots than a Black Iron chest which has 32 spots to hold things.
I guess if someone is this upset about a decoration in game they could always use the personal chest to hold these things in a limited manner.

As ever, it's an early access game - this sort of feedback is precisely the point and I fully expect some things I'm happy with to suddenly become other things. It's already happened to food and core combat mechanics.

True that, we are not sitting there in the office listening to Robin and the others about their weekend discussing the game.

So, what about a proposal to make them holding coins only? Seems making sense? Maybe with enlarged stack size, or with just more slots.
I feel the need of such kind of safe, maybe with access like the Personal Chest.

why would the put in decorative chests which can store items when they literally ask you to pay crystal to upgrade your storage. no one would buy the upgrades for the storage then... its not about if its hard to implement, it just doesnt make sense obviously. A chest should be able to store stuff, no matter how it is called. And it should not be hard to code it that way, since they already have the mechanism in the game.

"Decorative".
I suppose it could be used to store the materials used to make it.
It does! Deconstruct to get your money back!
That said, I like the idea of it only holding vendor trash. They already proved a decoration can hold items (see: christmas presents craftables). I don't know about stack size, larger would be nice, but I would be happy with lots of slots and normal stack size too.

I don’t get it. Why use „decorative“ if I can build a „real“ chest, that actually works and looks good to boot?

Its a decoration, currently. Either you like how it looks in your scrooge mcduck money pit, or you don't, same as the coin piles. Turning it into a real chest (not how it works, its a suggestion) to store vendor junk lets you have a useful decoration. If you don't like how it looks, you can still use a normal chest.

Well, I guess I‘m not much of a Scrooge McDuck… 😏
Never saw the need for money piles and such. Just a small farmer trying to make a „living“ in Valheim. 😁

Uh... it doesn't need to store things because it takes the things you would store to make. It's already full of treasure because it's made of treasure. There are other chests to put your junk in if you don't wanna turn it into chests or gold piles. It's for decoration buddy. Lots of people decorate their bases with stacks of gold and chests and gold piles.
