What if..?
What if there were buildable mounted weapons like a mangonel, trebuchet, crossbow, etc? It would help defend hours worth of art from getting ransacked.
Secondly, what if there were some sort of friendly AI vikings or goblins or whatever you could get to live in whatever base you assign them to and defend it?
It would be pretty cool

Well it better be automated and a damn sight better at fighting than the actual AI or else I don't see the point.
Trebs were always more of an anti-building artillery and there isn't much in the way of enemy structures to take out. Pretty overkill for a campsite made of bones. Nor do enemies come in large formations where a mangonel would make much sense.

That's so cute that you think that. I thought it was about bullying confused enemies and NOT dying. That's how it played out in mine. Your base isn't art. This isn't a NFT, it's a survival game. It's not a building game, it's a game about fighting and dying.

dont project. they dont have to be slaves they could be some sort of purchased or gold exchange service. and who cares if you build these defensive items and they never get built, its can be purely aesthetic if it is never used. Sounds like what you want is a tower defense game. Keep that in mind when you shop for games in the future.
This game just isn't made for that sort of thing. All events are RNG so you could have all these fancy base defenses and never get a raid event.
Also no need to leave guards at other bases as enemies will not attack if you are not there... the area is just suspended until a player enter the area and "spawns" it in.
Since we are dead heros sent here on a mission I also believe having others here as "support" is totally opposite of the world building the devs have done.
I wouldn't care if they added a tower defense mode, but I think they are more focused at this time on finishing the game and making it right before adding in extra features.
The friendly NPC thing sounds uncool to me though. Basically you just want slaves.
You also already have things like spikes, lox and wolves for defense.

He is there to provide a function you can't do yourself.
Unlike slaves/wage slaves who are just doing your job for you.
You are a stranger in a strange land, not home.

Most mobs in the game are vertically challenged. High walls, trenches or both prevent most mobs from doing anything to a base.
Your base isn't art. This isn't a NFT, it's a survival game. It's not a building game, it's a game about fighting and dying. There are already boars, wolves, and lox that can defend your base, or you can take the 120 seconds required to defend it yourself since the events only happen when you're home.
One of the draws to this game is that it flexibly is what a player wishes it to be. You can make the survival aspect super challenging(passive run, vegan run, etc etc) or use other means to make the survival part a non issue and focus on building, exploring or what have you.
As for bases not being art, since devs have had events to have people show off their artistic creations, I think the evidence is rather compelling that you are quite mistaken in your assumptions.

I'd prefer this, added npc's. But they would be all low/noob level. You are not the only dead warrior sent to Valheim. Why not have NPCs that are warriors just like yourself? They cooperate with you in order to better their chances of survival.
