Died at sea
So I am setting up to kill 3rd boss. I decided to set up a new base in plains region to plant those cool new flax and barley seeds. I'm loading my ship with those seeds, metal for the new base, potions and food for the boss fight and set sail. I am close to the plains shore, slowly rowing to my base spot...
And a wild mosquito appears on the horizon in front of me. I look at my health bar - only eaten a mushroom, less than 40 hp. I steer away from the shore trying to avoid the damn monster. Too late, it aggros. But now I'm sailing with the wind, sails on, full speed ahead!
Not fast enough, mosquito still catches up and keeps damaging the ship as it tries to attack me. Damn, have to fight. Shield up, spear in hand. I try to block the attacks but blocks dont seem to work while on a boat? I take full damage twice and die.
My boat, my corpse - in the middle of the ocean. Alt-f4

As you explore by boat, look for very small plains areas on the map. If you find shallow water marked as plains, you can raise the ocean, make yourself your own island, surround it with wooden walls and grow your onions, flax and barley unmolested.
If a skeeter is too close to use the bow, i swing my sword earlier then late, hold so you get all 3 swings. One of them should hit it.
But you are much better off if you find a copper rock in the forest, right on a mountains border. Listen for wolves, one will often come down when you are picking at the copper. Good way to get wolf fur and meat before heading up the mountain. You want silver based armor and weapons before you march off into the plains...

No one can wait that mistland gets released... until they meet the first opponents and onehit you.. then the whining starts again... lol
Most of the player base will be long gone by then. At this point, the updates have broken the game so often that only the die-hard fans will be left to play it.
Sad part is, it's a brilliant concept. Some tweaking and it could have been a joy to play. It was--until they started busting the mechanics of it to force players to play their way instead of just enjoying the fact that creative players will often do unexpected things and developing game breaking updates to punish those players and reducing the sandbox and discovery aspects.
Their day has come and gone and the devs with promises unmet, pardon the pun, missed the boat.
What a pity such a rich imagination isn't expended on the game instead of reading the minds of devs and making silly complaints.
I admire op for playing Valheim, not Google, but when you do that in any game, you sometimes learn by dying. Claiming that this is due to the narrow-mindedness of developers for failing to create a game that anticipates whimsy, always assuring a soft landing is just bizarre.
Fun fact: Telepathy is beyond the scope of computer science today.
Valheim is an RND survival game, In an RND game, stuff happens. It is neither possible nor desirable to prevent bad things from happening. Failure to grasp this is just breathtaking.
I don't think it's the devs who have a narrow-minded idea of what Valheim can be. But, in any case, at least their idea is coherent.

Bow and parry and smack - it's got really low health. But yeah, as folks pointed out, it's best to wait until you've beat the 4th boss to bother. Valheim has a pretty rigid progression.

I'm sorry but you apparently don't understand the way mods work. Iron Gate is NOT purposely "breaking the game", trying to "force players to play their way".
Mods are created using the game code available at the time of making the mod... anytime there is a game update, (new code being added to the game, you know... because the game is still in development)), the mods must also be updated to match that code... THAT is why mods "break" each time an update comes out... simple as that.
The devs aren't trying to "punish" anyone. or sabotage modders or anything of the sort... it's just an uncontrollable by-product of game development... Iron Gate literally has no control over that... They allow mods but do not "support" them meaning Iron Gate is not responsible for keeping Player-made mods up-to-date with their game... it is up to each mod-author to update their own mods to match the current game code or else that mod stops working. period.

A rescue mission was launched in a formerly decomissioned karve. Longship was recovered along with the corpse and all items. Karve was left behind though.
I didn't know I need 4th boss to make use of barley and flax, I try to discover stuff on my own and not read up about what's ahead. Got me some flax and barley, wanted to start planting them
Also, mosquitos and goblins are not really a problem, I'm sufficiently geared and experienced in the ancient art of "parry" to deal with them. It's just the mosquito caught me in a tough spot
Because every time they update it they punish every chance the player has of being brave, creative, or showing initiative. You are forced to play the game in the dogmatic order that the devs have commanded. It takes a dozen let's play to not die every five minutes. Playing for the discovery aspect is punished, not rewarded. If you want a game where curiosity is rewarded--that's been deliberately nerfed.
They need to stop calling it "sandbox" because it clearly is not. It's a forced linear progression.

You can't out run a deathsquito not even if you are unencumbered and have corpse run. You can't out sail them even in a long boat with max speed fair winds. As soon as it aggro'd you could have stood up and shot it with your bow. Deathsquitos hit hard but they have very little health. Even when they are aware of you one shot should kill them.
Another tip about boats. You can't deconstruct them with your hammer but you can break them with a weapon or your axe and get all the materials back. Stash all your inventory in your longboat so that you have both the room and the weight to pick up all the materials.
Make sure that you have auto gather turned on. Then stand in your Karve at the mast and whack it with your axe until it breaks. You'll drop into the water but all the materials for the boat will go right into your inventory before it gets a chance to sink.
You can do the same thing with your long boat. Sail to a new island, build a portal back to your main base or a portal hub with an open portal available to link the new portal and then take the axe to your boat and take the parts back home or you can leave it on the coast of the plains and just load your black metal scrap into the storage and sail it back home when you have a decent amount. Works the same way the other way around too. You can sail home with the ore and unload it then dismantle the boat, portal back to your plains area, and rebuild the boat.

If you have boat speed, swerve the boat and use the tail of the boat to smack it dead. Pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

I feel ya :(
Seems to me there really is no point to go further than bronze, or if you brave, iron.
So many have complained and quit the game be-course of this little bugger, before and after the nerf. I dont understand why they simply just dont remove it :(
And even if you where able to hit it with your little bronze shield or what ever you are using that have saved you many times over, not with this bugger, he will dmg you, you will notice this, and try and strike him, ok you get one hit in, but so does he again = dead
Guess its better to loose players

Dont try to venture in last biome for curious
Why you tryed to plant flax and and barley if you dont even defeated 4th boss ? You need a mill to process them , that needs a special workbench that needs 4th boss drop ...
Meados > black forest > swamp > mountains > plains
If you are well feed with swamp food and top iron items may can survive in plains but with less ....nope

the problem is not him, its the food system. you dont get stronger, its an illusion.
this little mosquito, or those small goblins is stronger than any other mobs he would have encountered. look, the biome-level sux. its cool with different mobs, that would challenge you with different strategy. i realized its only in the beginning you feel strong. the rest you have to be careful. esp if you are solo player. i know you can tame a wolf, but, wow he sure is no joke either, 2 bites and your dead. never been able to tame one. look, the player should have fun, and his fun ended really fast. why did it not de-aggro? why follow him way out in the water. dont think this is the player fault, the player should have felt its "rage" or danger on his terms, not the mosquito..
