The sparks can clip through walls and cages if there is not enough space around the refinery. I had the problem of sparks escaping until I built my enclosure a little bigger.

Yeah, I edited my last post.. The odd spark does get through, but damage is minimal compared to not having the cage there. :)

Build an Iron cage around the refineries... It doesn't look as bad and the Iron takes 0 damage. You can make it so they just fit into the cage and you can still feed sap and tissue into the machine & extract the etir through the iron bars. The odd spark will still escape through the bars, but they mostly hit nothing and potential damage o the base is reduced by about 95%

I ended up building a giant marble enclosure with a top feeding hatch attached to my base. It's pretty slick looking, but there seems to be a bug possibly tied to low frame rates where a particle will escape and pass through black marble and hit an exterior wall piece. Good thing mines behind 3 walls minimum.

Prior to this I just set them up far from my base and let them do their thing in the wilderness.

Sounds like you are talking about the refinery, I was talking about the refined eitr itself. I just stuck it in a chest and it's ok. It was more a warning for anyone else who doesn't expect the eitr to cause damage when lying on the floor.

Both the refinery and eitr them selves will emit those tachyon particles. Kinda wierd they stop in chests but I'll take it.

I put eitr refinery under Elder's Altar.

Just dig a hole, plop it into the hole and cover the top with marble.

Yes, I have rebuilt using this idea. This joins the spice rack, hot tub, mortar & pestle and the others as things that have to be placed just so and seriously limit/cramp base building fun.
Its kind of a cool idea, but when you combine the input/output aggravation design with the shooting particles it becomes a little too annoying.

Its kinda funny, but its just another 'build our way' like the 2 foot distance limit on upgrades that make it hard to build pretty crafting areas. And you even with marble all around my machine, with only the inputs and output a tiny bit exposed for access, it trashes the place. Im going to have to start over trying to cage mine, make it tighter.

mine is also encased, no shots have excaped yet.
