Has Valheim been abandoned?

On release they spoke of 2-3 full "expansions" for year one. We got Frozen caves in March, and Hearth and Home in September last year. None of these are particularly big and shouldn't have taken this long. Having seen what modders did with Epic Valheim, adding multiple biomes and dozens of items in a a few months...

I'm starting to feel like since they pretty much got rich over night, they've lost interest in continuing development?

I've never replayed a game this much or modded anything like this before, be a real shame if they've abandoned us.

No, it will eventually be finished and the mods will make it a good game.

A few small patches this month are pretty indicative that they are sticking with it. It may not seem like much but vaporware devs would never even bother.

I totally understand your frustration but here's something for context: Skyrim has a massive development team, like top tier, and it took them 7 years. Iron Gate is an indie dev that just expanded a few months ago and expansion for a small group is chaotic. Valheim started about 2 years ago.

My advice is finding another title for now and keep up to date on Valheim every month or so.

I feel the same i haven't try Caves or Hearth, because they felt like minor patches, i thought after their big success this game would become a big game, but no joke this has to be the slowest developed game i have ever seen and im 35, specially after their great launch it's really a shame, i wish for a sandbox building game like this everyday, but there's nothing everytime i come back to check

What about 7 days? Isn't that still in alpha?

I tried but the poor graphics and interface, clunky gameplay made it hard to play for longer than an hour, i tried to give it a second chance but end up quiting again after a few minutes, im just waiting for ARK 2, but i would personally prefer a medieval themed game

Odd you ask if it has been abandoned yet list the things they have indeed done already... then somehow come to the conclusion it is abandoned....

You know if they did abandon the game why would they have done any bug fixing or updates? Sounds like a lot of work to me in order to abandon something....

Not abandoned, just really slow development. It sounded to me like they're trying (no promises) to get the test branch (not the official release) of the Mistlands update out by the end of this year, so the first half of 2023 should have more of the content people are looking for. But, y'know, don't hold your breath or anything.

Eh, that's kinda apples-to-oranges. Outwardly, there's some commonalities, but Elder Scrolls games have a huge map that's designed by people. Sure, lots of assets get reused, but it's all designed and put together by people. Not to mention, there's all of those quests and characters with dialogue. The way Valheim is set up, it should only take a fraction of the work hours to accomplish--which is good, because they do have a significantly smaller team.

Also, I'm pretty sure they got started on Valheim more than 2 years ago. It's been on the steam store for almost 2 years, but that's not when they started the project. If they really started about 2 years ago, than it just raises more questions. Like how did they get meadows, black forest, swamp, mountains, plains, base-building, character design, skills, equipment, etc. mostly done in a few months (in time for Steam release) but can't get a single new biome done in the following 2 years? Doesn't add up. Simplest explanation is that they were working on the game for quite a while before launching on Steam.

And yes, I know they've also worked on other things during this past 2 years, not just Mistlands.

Keep in mind they are a very small development team, they know they have a very strong fan base and they work hard to give us new content, there is a long wait between updates but the game is well worth it and an impressive contribution to its genre considering team size

no but i feel the devs are being a bit cheeky with lack of forecasting. the more people ask and pile on, the less the devs cooperate because they dont want to incentivize the behavior. and, they dont want to set more deadlines they might not meet, which will lead to more flaming and butthurt.

my take: they have made an internal decision, or a deal with microsoft, to not release mistlands until xbox port is ready, to make the xbox launch more flashy. so, the lack of mistlands updates is really to make you think they are still working on it, when they are actually bundling it with the xbox launch, and they dont want to annoy PC players by admitting that. mistlands could be done for all we know.
