I cannot select/change to correct resolution. 2560x1440. The menu is glitching.

OK i have solved it. It was because Gamepad controls was enabled by default, and this prevent to scroll in Resolution drop up menu..

Oh my god… that’s so much easier. Kicking myself rn for not thinking of that instead. :dos2skull:

To be fair, games having persistent player-driven notes and map markers and such is kind of a new thing.

In my first playthrough I built 30+ portals at home for constant connections. Now I have 3 that I use to go to the farms and exploration. I simply name my bases the portal names, eg "plains", "mist", "moder"...etc. I have a 4th emergency portal called "x" I keep in a side building if I do something dumb.

It takes a fair bit of time to turn meat into charcoal. The game even gives you audible clues that your meat is 'done', but you do not have to snatch it immediately. Letting it stay over an open fire for a half hour while you fiddle with something else goes against the ethos of the game, which is 'suvival'.

That was a silly whine.

Yes, but the portal will often shut down when you try to step through it after performing this change. Sometimes takes 2 or 3 tries to get it to stay connected.

It's surprising (to me) how quickly I started filling the map with markers, once I figured out how to use them properly. If it feels too cluttered, you can right-click on the little icons where you select a map marker icon to drop, and it toggles the visibility of that type of map marker.

I use the "dot" to indicate resources (metals, berries, etc), the "T" to indicate spawners, the campfire to indicate "resting places" (shelter, bed, workbench, etc) and the house to indicate places with portals... and the house name is the same as the portal.

I keep a portal hub at the first base I make away from spawn, so nothing is ever farther than two hops away. The downside, of course, is that everything is two hops away... but it beats having to rename a portal every time I want to go somewhere.

...
I've never considered the renaming could be used like that. Thank you!

I use a "two portal system" at home base as my portal hub. One portal--the "open portal"-- is always left disconnected as standard protocol. The other is the "dial-out" portal. My remote portals are named "base#". When a remote portal doesn't have the dial-out portal's entered address, the open portal is dialed. Then the remote portal is returned to its new or existing address just before stepping through. Saves having to have a special warehouse for portals.

I also use the map to catalog remote bases, very carefully, even in hostile places. I have finished a couple of playthroughs through ML with 60+ remote bases.

Meh, it just moves the effort from "build a big house for a bunch of portals" to "do a special dance any time you want to go somewhere"... I'd rather set it up ahead of time, and not have to do it for every trip.

You do you, though, that's what makes sandbox-style games fun, right?

1. Yes terrain slopes and fighting on those should be changed. However, you seem to recognize what works and what doesn't. I assume you're preferably using melee in those situations so okay, get it.
2. It doesn't make sense progress-wise overall, but you need that buff because of the wolf-raid, that killing bonemass will trigger or maybe for raiding the fuling-villages and so on. So I guess it kind of does... however, so far, I haven't used any of the other ones yet.
3. Yeah ok you cannot properly move while the map is open. But you know that the game will not pause while in those menus, so I wouldn't use them in those situations anyway.. ? I know it can be annoying and sometimes I will forget about it as well (and walking forward/not getting the right button at times).
4. Cannot say much about problems with changing weapons as I mostly just used the bow but if I do switch, I usually manage to get me 1-2 seconds to do so. Are you playing on pc or console? Maybe that's a different story on console (afaik there are problems with that)
5. You get a notification that the meat is cooked in form of a sound. You wouldn't go to sleep in RL while having your dinner still cooking, would you? There is still a good amount of time in which you can get it after it's finished. Maybe you were just doing stuff on the other end of your base and had to run back every time?
6. -
7. QOL-improvement (that I personally don't need) but why not if it's optional
8. I actually like having a lot of small islands of certain biomes to explore.
9. Was already covered here; you have a few seconds after renaming to still hop into the old destination. When reconnecting/renaming just take a step back and let it reactivate again by going closer.
10. I think the fog inside buildings is just there because it's everywhere. Don't have much of a problem with that or the regular fog that will occur some days. But I -hate- the plains for it and I'm assuming that I will hate the mistlands as well, lol. Ground fog is a pain if you're as lucky as to have it somewhere in your base because you didn't know better than to lower the ground somewhere.
11. Does it matter if you die heroically by falling off a roof or in a fight? :P But yeah, a lot of people are waiting for the sliders.
12. Depends on how and how long you play.

Not a bug; it's a feature.

Being able to change the tag on a portal and step through to the original destination before it connects to the new one allows easier moving and renaming of portals.

Example:

I have portals at my home base that are named numbers (ie, "1", "2", etc) for disambiguation purposes, but I'm not sure where they will end up pointing to.
I find a good location for a new portal while exploring, which I decide will be named "Blueberries" for whatever reason.
When I build the portal, I name it "1", and wait for it to connect.
Then, I name it "Blueberries" and quickly step through, at which point I am transported to the "1" portal at my base... which I can now rename "Blueberries", wait a moment for connection, then step back through to the now properly named and connected remote portal and continue exploring.
When I find another good place for a portal, I can repeat the process for "2", and so on and so forth.

What the x-portal mod does should be a default behavior. It lets you use a drop down to connect portals. Gets rid of the guesswork and you don't need a huge portal hub. I know there are ways to use just 2 in your base and swap them around to connect to remote ones, but it's tedious and can leave portals stranded if you make a mistake.

What ways are you familiar with?
