Will an old seed be compatible with the new update if it is made as a new world?
I know that we need to create new worlds, but I'm just concerned about using my old seed again. The seed was perfect and had huge and extremely rewarding biomes. My friend just got the game, and I recommended using my old seed. We've done tons of work on creating a historically accurate Viking village, but it dawned on me that we might not even be able to get tar since we used an old seed. I'm pretty worried about this and I'd appreciate if anyone could please answer this question. Thank you.

Having the same concerns, decided not to explore anymore of the map on our main server and just farmed tar from a secondary world. The cartography table was helpful in letting everyone see what all has been explored, so we don't reveal anymore of the map unnecessarily.

We ended up finding tar pits in that same seed on the new map. Whew.

the seed you used before the update will generate the excat same map after the update (i noticed that buidings may turned around 90° to 180° randomly)

The seed should eb the exact same. Google valheim map generator and it can actually show you the whole map, you can use that to doulbe check if its the same.
If usign an old seed you can get the tar to spawn in plains biomes you have not yet explored. Anything thats still dark on the map will spawn the new stuff when discovered.

You may look here ( https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/pqrllp/how_to_upgrade_already_explored_areas_with_hh/ ) to repopulate tar in areas previously visited with mods. Make backups. Read carefully. Both mods required.
