What is the best tactic for surviving surprise attacks/events?
So I was very quickly disembowelled by a pack of 6 wolves in the mountains.
("You are being hunted")
I honestly can't imagine what I could have done to save myself, after my blocking stamina drained, even after popping a healing and stamina potion, I didn't stand a chance against 6 wolves.
(fully upgraded root armour + lox cape and fully upgraded banded iron shield).
I had iron armour I could have been wearing, but that is only like 15% more armour than root.
If I had been close to a tower or base I might have been able to get inside and pick them off with my bow, but you all know how well wolves climb, so most rocks are out of the question...
The only thing I can think of is to practice dodge rolling, which I have never really used.

I have been fortunate that all but one of the Being Hunted events occurred such that I had high ground nearby to get to before the wolves showed up. There is some lag between the time the event is announced to the time that critters show up, usually giving me enough time to find and get to a defensive position.
One case happened in the Plains with a nearby herd of Lox that wolves I wounded went to attack rather than continue to attack me. Another case, also in the Plains, I was caught in the open. That is where the Atgeir secondary attack came in handy. 360 degree swing and knock back provided me enough time and stamina to finish off enough of the initial attack to live for another day.
I intentionally, among other reasons, held off taking out Bonemass because it would activate the Hunted event, which is centered on the player, not the base. I explored and mined nearby Mountains, which cost me several deaths, so that I could upgrade weapons and armor. I am doing the same with Moder, exploring the Plains and gathering Plains mats so that when Moder is defeated I will be ready for the next round of upgrades and events.
Good luck to the OP!

The hunted event is pretty bad. Even when you escape the circle, they STILL spawn IN FRONT of you, so escape isnt really a good bet. Barring unusual circumstances.
Due to their speed and damage, all you can do is head back to a safe-ish place to minimize your run back to your corpse.
Sledge does work well, but the -20% speed doesnt help.
I would say you can pillar upward like in minecraft but unless you are a godlike build ninja and can drop a workbench, a roof over it, and jump-raise a few times super fast, that wont work...
Maybe the best bet is to run into the other monsters that are trying to murder you. If in the swamp/plains, then in theory the wolves should fight those monsters which should help you deal with the problem.

Wait... um dont you need the wishing bone to really accomplish much in the mountains? Obsidian doesnt really do much other than better arrows for the most part.
Ah, did you use the dirty Sledge-detection technique? :-)

Look for a close rock formation or anything else, like a stone tower ruin, thats ensure you are only attackable from one side. Thats a must, if they can attack you from several angles youre toast. Or check for a steep rock close by.
With the bonemass buff active its acually not this hard.

The best time to get the "you are being hunted" notification is when you're sailing. It's happened to me twice. I never saw a wolf and just kept on sailing.

Not really just look for a flattish area with a golem nearby. There will always be silver there most of the time.I intentionally, among other reasons, held off taking out Bonemass because it would activate the Hunted event, which is centered on the player, not the base. When blocking the wolves (with a shield, not a parry) are often stunned by the block ((aka knockback) and that's the time to hit them.
Iron armor would of been a better choice.
Wolves cannot climb stone walls.
Dodging uses more stamina ((I think)) than blocking.
Don't let wolves surround you, or any mob, as in IRL, keep moving in the fight.

I have faced three "you are being hunted" events and every time I have been on Plains. Killed many wolfs as I could and before I got killed I exit the game and went to other seed to regain my stamina and went back.

You don't simply build a moat in five seconds :DJust like almost every raid. Build a moat. So I was very quickly disembowelled by a pack of 6 wolves in the mountains.

There isn't, just fell of a cliff while chased by 2 trolls, where 3 2star-skeletons, 2 Draugr, a ghost and a blobb were already waiting for me, no chance to do a single hit or enough stamina to run. All with full portions and maxed out gear. There realy needs to be a way to keep monsters from spawning

I wear Iron armor or better. Been hit with the "You are Being Hunted" event more times than I can recall. I usually get my back against a wall/rock whatever, activate Bonemass, raise my shield and take them out.
If you're lucky, you'll be near a Fuling village when it hits. They don't like each other very much, so let them duke it out...

I've only survived one "You are being hunted" event - it happened on a mountain and I was able to slide down the mountain, zig-zagging between large rocks which slowed their pathing just enough for me to escape.
So basically, if it happens on a mountain run downslope and use the terrain to your advantage. If it happens anywhere but on a mountain, it was nice knowing you.

Do you have one of the two big hammers (Stagbreaker, the Iron maul) or an Atgeir? Backing against a wall, rock or a couple of trees will help in not being surrounded. The knock back and stun of the big hammers sure helps in surviving. Be careful if you're using a big hammer and a wall or building as cover as the big hammers will destroy walls etc.
