Question regarding carts.

Note: Still in the iron age but i like gathering Copper ore just incase...

I usually fill the cart with like maybe 90-120 Copper ore at a time (Can carry alot more) But is it worth filling the cart completely up with ore? (Noticed on my world i got plenty of hills towards my base (Not the best seed but really close to trader and other bosses apparently so better than my other ones). But back to the question.

I usually struggle getting back to my base with 120 copper ore with the cart with nothing else in it. would it effect it even more if i put alot more in?

Never really used the cart that much in the past, recently started using it a few weeks ago lol.

I only use cart to transport wood from my forest, if I'm building something bigger. if the mountain is close to the water, it can be used to drop more silver down and reload it onto the ship,
if I need copper, I pick the one along the shore, pushing your way through the forest with a cart is slow/anoying, and you will load a lot less on cart. On boat you can be overloaded so even a raft may be a better option.

:) My first playthrough I built on a massive hilltop plateau in a ring of river.

Then realised the need for a dock for importing metals. 2 hours of carving a path later and I used it daily for the next 6 months :D

Top Tips,

1) don't carve your path too deep, as the turns take more space than you'd think
2) smooth the slope from the top down, far easier than bottom up.
3) don't be afraid to 'build up' the path edge if the slope has a variation or wrinkle on it

If you have plains nearby, tame a Lox, and use that instead, you just need to pick cloudberries to tame it.
Cart specific, make a road, but that is kinda annoying and takes long time if the terrain is elevated a lot. Or maybe make a canal if in really low lying, but again, long and tedious.

I always found a boat to be more effective and easier to use than a cart. If you can, boat your ore as close to your base as possible and then use a cart to get it the rest of the way, as boats suffer no slowdown or movement penalty for being filled.

Been doing that for the swamp runs, I fill up a dungeon with ore and slow wobble back to the boat with like 105+ Iron :P

(Doing that now with 300+ Silver atm) LOL good thing i can just throw the ore down the hill and see the glitter (Boat is just below the mountain) :D

Hairpin paths up hills, the zig zag reduces the incline climbed like it does IRL and you can drag a max weight cart up a "gentle" slope on the bigger slope.

Also, if you happen to be multiplaying, turn on PVP get your buddy to poon you while you're in the cart and two man drag it way quicker :)

It'll definitely affect you as you add more weight. Using the Eikthyr buff can help a bit with stamina, but the weight increase will still be noticeable as you struggle up hills.

Yeah I've been using the cart a lot more also. I usually setup my satellite bases closer to the coast. That usually makes for an easy run with the cart since my main base is also on the coast. Got lucky enough in my most recent playthrough that all of the copper/tin I've needed was fairly close to my starter meadows base, so it's only a ~5 minute trip with the cart. Made two trips and got everything I needed (plus extra) back to base. Tried loading up the cart with ~250 copper and 120+ tin and had trouble moving up some of the smaller hills without draining all of my stamina, so I cut the load in half and that made it much easier.

Like Science Dog said, I'd definitely recommend using Eikthyr when hauling a loaded cart over longer distances.

I only use carts transporting ALOT of weight for straight paths and downhill. Mostly for offloading my longboat or collecting tons of wood.
