Iron is a grind. This game is great but life is short:

It's RNG, just like everything else. Could be 0 crypts in an area, could be 20+.

It seems completely random. I've had smallish swamp areas give me three crypts and larger ones have none at all.

Took me 9 swamps to find the first crypt. And maybe 15 swamps to locate Bonemass

As i noticed, there are 3 types of swamps:

1. Large swamp area with boss altar (always has lot of crypts)
2. Small swamp area at coast line (usualy no crypts)
3. Medium "round" area with 3-5 crypts.

Long and narrow swamp areas usualy have no crypts aswell.

it is random and frustrating at times, persevere and you will find one with iron. small swamps can still have crypts, if you find one i would suggest to make a longship asap as you will then be able to travel further faster and carry more iron home to smelt, large swamps can get hopes up but have no crypts, so best bet is to scout before landing and look for those green torches

Besides size, luck of the seed you get matters quite a bit too.

yea thats kind of normal. It took me a minute to find anything useful on my solo world (in the swamp)

It seems *very* random. Keep exploring though!!

Pre-H&H, the world we played on was *loaded* with crypts in the swamp biomes. One area had something like 60 crypts.

We rolled a new world seed for post-H&H, and on the new world we've found several reasonably large swamps with zero crypts, and then a relatively small swamp biome that had 8 of them. So the frequency is all over the place.

The bigger the swamp the better chance of finding crypts.

use valheim world generator type in your seed and it will it will show you where they are

It took me awhile before finding a swamp with crypts. I'd say you're in normal territory. Might just need to expand your search area a bit to find a good swamp.

..or see it as part of the game. He can of course do a seed check, but exploring is an integral part of the game and depending on who you are, you might cheat yourself. I would not use the world generator, but if the experience gets too frustrating, I can understand people using it.

More Crypts usually in bigger swamps, map out the shore of a swamp by sailing first, to get a bit of an idea. Also if you find Vegisvir in the swamp will show you Bonemass locations, typically they tend to have a good few Crypts in the swamp with a boss in it.
