I keep dying to a mosquito trying to retrieve my body. Died in a ravine of water, can't defend myself because I am in water, can't get out of water because cliffs are too steep. Why can't we have our Shield and Sword equipped while in water? I cannot defend myself, plus I am losing stamina/health. Lame.

I agree with the penalty, except boats are over water always, and sometime the water is a little too deep to retrieve the mats.

1. Consume lots of Stamina good.
2. Take off your clothes
3. Activate deer boss special
4. Swim across the English channel.

Or build a raft

omg what i hate about swimming is you cant dive to pickup stuff... seeing black marble or metals or scales underwater annoys me greatly. sometimes you can use the hoe to raise bottom level stuff and jump in to get it. not always.

If they made it realistic your Viking would have to divest his gear to return to the surface or strip before going swimming.

Valheim + mod.. you can make all items float.. what a freaking lifesaver.. <3

Use a Hoe to bring the bottom of the ocean UP...so the loot will rise with the ground.

It does, actually, because your movement penalties (or bonuses) affect stamina drain of movement actions like swimming. :)

It would be interesting if the weight of your inventory in itself impacted swimming, but it'd probably make waterfronts way dangerous in many situations and difficult to balance out.

The best thing about the water in Valheim is the way it can look. From a interaction point of view its more like Oil...
If you want simulation levels
1) After due preparation (IE no or low amount of Clothes) we should be able to dive.
2) Stay in the water we get COLD regardless of gear and die of that NOT lack of stamina

As it i it has some internal consistency. Loosing certain types of loot as they sink is a fair penalty in this brutal world etc Its never going to be a simulation folks but even so getting a "swimming potion" that lets you dive breath underwater maybe and generally splash a bout for much longer is worth a look maybe DEV especially if you plan to "develop" the Ocean some more as a Boss area

Water interactions are working as intended. Modify your play thus accordingly.

woah, how dare you suggest something that's needed. when you first start the game just don't go in the water, you'll run out of stamina and be drowned to death. when i was 7 i could swim half a mile and then spend the day jumping off of and climbing up cliffs. but vikings never did learn how to tread water on their back. it's why there are none left today. true story

Obviously doesn't work with all depths of water, but building a high dive platform will often drop you deep enough to get more of the loot (if its something you want enough to go to the effort)
