That's why I started traveling larger distances picking up rocks/branches or farming grey dwarf nests for wood and stone. Its unlimited that way.

Then I'm very selective when choosing the pine and birch trees I cut down for the higher quality woods. I space the areas out between cutting them down so its practically unnoticeable.

My world still looks pristine and I replanted my base area. Its just extra time traveling, but that can be useful for combining it with berry runs or some light copper mining, for instance.

So there are definitely more "green" ways to play. The most destructive thing to the forest is the trolls who live there for me XD

This is why I created a separate world from my own. I use the NIMBY principle. I ravage that place for resources while keeping my own neighbourhood looking pristine.

Yes, although it requires a stonecutter to do it with the hammer.
That being said, the pick works just fine... and nearby trolls are always willing to lend a hand.

DUDE, the number of stumps I had to clear out when I played with my friends...

I also replanted an entire forest section while they were offline after we'd spent the entire game clear cutting it. It was stacks of seeds. They all logged back on to see our village was surrounded by trees again instead of a massive field. It was good times.
