All Capital F's. A swamp connected to the starting island with 47 sunken crypts.

You need to say how many F's, @Gunter. There is no fixed length in the seed string.

Also, the number of crypts can vary everytime the exact same seed gets generated. I've regenerated my mains seed in order to experience the ice caves and my starter swamp originally had no crypts, but in the new version it had two.

Is the starting Location the same for every seed or does it change?

It is always in a stone circle in the meadows.

How the map is set up can be completely different between seeds.


Basically they start with a huge world map and cut a small portion out of it for our world.
Then the biomes need to be generated appropriately.

Interesting experiences about the map generation.
I haven't experienced anything similar, thank you for sharing.

Have some of you gotten really screwed up didn't work right maps?

I just got one and am serious upset, fell down a HUGE hole and died. My character wasn't a fresh start day one guy, I had a guy with full armor and weapons so I have to lose it all. Tried to regain after spawning once, climbing down and getting my stuff but the hole is straight down, so died again.

If anyone wants to see how the map SHOULD NOT form.

Seems all of the tablets, stelae or whatever you call them, the rocks with RED WRITING either formed huge pillars or huge holes. Additionally some of the land has water flowing over it at lower elevations. Like a swamp would but its a lush green starting area that is just .... well covered a great deal in ocean. Pretty disappointed.

While exploring a completely unknown map is certainly most fun to play. Sometimes you just want to play a seed with specific characteristics like on a tiny island or something. There are some really fun seeds to play.

Keep in mind the map generator site may not show all the real detail that is there.

I had one map that looked normal but was tiny creeks in steep gullies everywhere and it was just invisible on the map. Honestly it was a challenge to play that map. A lot of fun.

But if all you are going by is the generated map from a site or whatever it might actually be very different.

Neat idea for builders I suppose. Or people who want to role play and just kind of live there. I don't really play that way myself though.

Not sure if this is a good seed by others standards, but it is for me. Just discovered this the other night.

What I found noteworthy is that all 5 bosses and the trader are in a very close proximity to the spawn island. 3 of the bosses are on the starting island itself (Eithkyr, Elder and Moder).

In contrast to the first 3 comments I really share your assessment. Having seen now 100s and 100s of map generations as I addictively click for more. Many are not so good for immersion or sea-travel, and the appeal of exploration gets less with time.

Most of the seeds in the guide are in my mind for home build seed purposes, however, for those I intentionally try to only zoom in on the connected spawn-landmass as to not reveal any further spoilers like bosses etc.

Having a home base area that are appealing aesthetically and for immersion is rudimentary for me.

I have over 1300 hours in this game. I love it.
This guide is nice for me, because I have explored a LOT of realms. Even online realms.

I mostly enjoy building at this point. Finding that 'perfect' realm with the assets you like is important when you have played as much as me. There is no more 'surprise' content. Just variations on a very very familiar theme.

So I run mods, play with peers, and being able to preview a map helps me gauge whether it will be a positive interaction.

Too often, I have found realms that are like an imaginary carrot on a stick, but with each new island explored, and every sea crossed, there is no carrot.

I'm of the same general opinion as GFB and ed. I need mystery and discovery.

My opinion on the guide is that people should probably not use a guide to choose a map.

Random maps really add a lot to the game for me.

Just recently I got two maps in a row that some people would call "easy" most/all biomes on main island with trader.

Getting maps like that for the first time really changed how I perceived the game. Progression was insanely fast and I was lagging behind in food constantly. The map was so easy to play that I just never had the time to get the food farmed for that level.

In a lot of ways maps can alter progression. And not just in ways that you might see but the added randomized spawns for POIs will change anyway and troll spawns for example.

I see complaints from people about progression and grind but I often wonder if that comes from the variation in maps and perhaps these people will only play one map and have no idea of the overall picture.

That does give a game like this more difficulty to balance, the maps really do alter things that much.

In the end I think doing many random maps is the way to play to get the full experience.

I do find it interesting that even people with similar tastes may have different opinions about the game based on the map they played.. it really does make that big a difference.

What @Guns wrote. Though I'm not too snobish to try maps others have posted just for the giggles of it.

So, I'm kinda torn. Yes, I absolutely love exploring a map that "no one has boldly gone before", but I also love trying something others have found rewarding or just nice.

So, yeah. Love this game just for THAT feature.
