anything to do about storage space ? i dont mind grinding, its actually quite bearable in this game unlike most others.

you upgrade your carry weight after a bit, on the other side of my 'home' portal is a pile of dump chests and this one an ore chest maybe a spare portal in the pocket, portals can really change the game.
i pick up everything, sort out what you don't want when you cant carry any more (and hope it's not when you least want it)

There used to be the "server hop" method, but not sure is that's taken out or not.

Simply create another server, build yourself a workbench in a small house and hop in there the moment you're getting overloaded with ores.
Drop the items at the ground, log out, log back in to the server you're playing at, rince and repeat.

When you're done collecting all those resources, move back to your home base, log out, log in the "storage server", pick up the goods, log out, log back into your playing server and unload. Rince and repeat until all the resources are transferred and you're good to continue.

Imho getting couple of quick slots for food/potions or an whole additional inventory row somewhere in the progression would be very sensible.

When you start the game the inventory space is more than enough, but as you go through the biomes, the different options keep piling on, while the space stays the same. I would love to try the two handers, but leaving the sword and board home, can be an issue for me if I get cornered while digging through some weird rock or in a dungeon. Wisplight now either eats an extra slot or you need to constantly go back for the weight belt. Using magic seems to be extra 2-3 slots just for staffs, and as the mana food is kinda work intensive, probably a slot or two for extra lower quality foods. Probably need to drop the other ranged options to do this, but all the collateral damage of the fireballs makes them really odd in places where I want to keep the building around me intact.

Do not get me wrong, playing with the current space is obviously OK, but it comes at the cost of either just ignoring some options that the game gives us, or at serious quality of life sacrifice.

I understand if this is an issue only for a minority of players, we should just install mods, but I am unsure if this is just a fringe issues, or something that would make the core game more enjoyable. And let's not get into how messy things can get when a mod that manages your inventory messes up. Their interactions with gravestones can get weird too.

I find the current weight limit totally fine, but how tight the inventory slots get once you go into mistlands is not enjoyable at all. I mean come on, do I really need to choose between a pocket of berries or a giant sledge hammer.

To avoid clutter I just don't pick up what I'm not lacking. Dedicated armor and utility slots would be nice and maybe an extra utility belt that could be made for food/mead slots.

The carry weight does get irritating because that can limit you before your inventory is even half full, but still makes sense as long as you're willing to overlook being able to run at all while carrying what must amount to at least a few hundred pounds of random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

A backpack in place of a Cape item that increases slot capacity would be nice too. Even if it only added one extra row of space that would typically be enough as long as it's within the weight limit.

You can eventually get a way to increase your carry weight (at the cost of another inventory slot used) but at least for now the amount of inventory is fixed. It is a common request in an ever expanding early access so who knows, it could change, but as always don't assume it will. The weight increase is very useful when going for ores, especially anywhere within running distance.

If I do have to sail for ore mining I usually set up an outpost with a dock in a safe-ish biome nearby my mining area. Meadows always fit the bill, swamps are always a bad idea if you want to keep your boat, the rest may depend on your current progression and experience. That way i can spend a while over at the outpost mining a stockpile so it's actually worth making the trip in the boat when i have as much as i'm able to carry at the time. Sometimes i might have multiple main bases if the trip is long/annoying enough. Especially for some of the later game areas you have to travel farther for it can sometimes just be so much easier to go raid a nearby black forest or swamp for some cores to set up your smithing over there. The ore might not transfer but the items crafted from it, like weapons or armor, will. More than one main base can also be a necessity for farming reasons, a slightly unrelated note, but worth noting.

Without cheesing the game by hopping servers you can bring a cart along. A cart can hold lots of stuff but it gets hard to move it up even a small incline if you have it loaded with twice the weight you can carry.

If your target is near the shore you can sail there, walk a short distance to gather things, and carry them back to the ship. The Karve has a 4 square cargo hold and the Longboat has 18.

If you really want to cheese things you can build a ship and then build a cart on top of it.

You can always put your stacks of 50 like wood and stones on the ground to save space and weight no need to carry them everywhere with you like chopping trees, just put the stack down and continue chopping.

You can download Valheim+ on nexus mods and tweak that value. Valheim+ allows you to tweak the amount of rows in inventory space, and various other things, and allows you to change the weight capacity for your character. Ive always hated the very low weight capacity for your characters inventory. I would definitely recommend Valheim+ because of the QoL changes it provides.

No, your inventory space is fixed unless you cheat. Its a bit of a frustration even with portals because most zones drop more types of stacks than you will ever have room to collect, forcing you to choose what to dump or to zap back home every few min. At least you can re-rest and repair etc when you go back.

Agree with jonnin :steamhappy:
Basically if you are travelling by foot, you teleport back to base when changing biome. The game almost forces you to build many teleports along the way so that once you die, there's always one close by. A habit new players need to get custom to IMO

You could try and build a chest. Mine what you think you need and put it in the chest. Build teleport to get back there quickly. Now use that first bosses power to run only ore to where ever you are going to process it and teleport back to get another load. Rinse and repeat.
Sailing is kinda pointless with karve, with longboat moving 2-3 nodes(or 2-3 crypts) at once is much more viable

Carts and boats exist for hauling ore, though for shortish distances it's not worth it - especially cart, where you might have to build a road just to use it.

Run home, portal back, repeat - or build your home where the ore is.

+1 for Valheim Plus. It is a highly worthwhile mod, and has a ton of features that you can decide which ones you want, and how much they affect things.

Nothing kills an adventure faster than your bags being full 10 minutes after you left home, or not being able to carry even 1/5 of the ore you find, or seeing your weapons/tools break after just a couple minutes of use.

Have fun. Mod the game.

boating the ore around is the way to go. Build bases (or at least a smelting and crafting area) on the shore and farm ore near the shore as much as you can and the problem all but disappears.
you can also waddle a very long way with thousands of units of extra weight in your bag using 3 stam foods. Its a little slow, but its faster than making 30 trips.
