Use the stagbreaker and smack the ground in areas that you might think may have iron or silver deposits. If you get "too hard" showing up that is a good indicator of where to start using the pick axe.

wonderful insights, thank you for this convo thread info. I am at the cusp of retrieving maybe a scrap of iron, by nibbling at a swamp edge. Or any other way I can. Also I am attempting to not eliminate Forsaken. I have the Antler, but I collapsed that seed when that was done. I've not found many spots for accessible Obsidian yet either. But, if I can maybe use the same method in the swamp I think I can mine it with the copper pick. I desperately want/need stonecutting.
But that bit of advice will be crucial. Not sure if I had heard it before, but I had not been able to play since April or so, when it began a rash of crashing. I am very far behind.

1. Place workbench within close proximity.
2. Put a chair right in front of the door.
3. Run to the chair and press whatever key you have bound to interact with it without letting go of your movement keys.
4. If done right you sit on the chair, then you clip through the gate via momentum of movement -> you have entered sunken crypt. Whenever you leave a crypt you always end up on other side of the gate so it only is necessary for entering.

From like 100 veins i marked in my worlds , only 2 or 3 are close to a nest lol
Golem spawns or ruins are more sure for a vein in the area

Indeed. Found four veins yesterday, using the Stagbreaker method, and ALL of them were next to a dragon nest. In fact, we didn't find a single nest that didn't also have silver nearby.

(Obviously, just chance and RNG, but it did happen.)

craft 2handed hammer. (stagbreaker will do).
equip it in the mountains.
use special attack.
if you see the message "too hard" or something like that. that's where your silver node is. start digging and as soon as you find it don't mine it, but instead start removing dirt around it. to uncover full node.

Thx guys,found a silver vein by going back to the golem spot and just whacking the ground with the sledgehammer

Look for a golem, they usually spawn around silver.

Thx,just killed one aswell,may go back if i can remember where it was.

Sometimes silver can stick out from the ground at the edges on the mountians.

I run around with Stagbreaker on tall mountains, then use it to smack the ground. If it says "0 damage" or "No damage", usually it means there is either a boulder of stone or a vein of silver near where I smacked. Often times, I have to dig quite deep to find it. In most cases, I had to dig about 2 to 3 times the height of my character to reach the vein. In uncommon times, i find silver veins exposed to the sky.

As Woz and Peath mentioned, where you find it, has to be high enough to spawn golems.
