I think I see what you are asking, and yes. For example, were there a sliver of 'land', that you could jump onto at the last moment then yes. You could survive. But if it's simply an atoll, or a jutting rock. You are done, Unless you build to, or in conjunction with multiple rafts, etc. You would be doomed.
It simply has a point of no return. using the small floor boards as comparison. 10 of those or 5 full boards. 5-10 from the edge is like white water, rapids facing you. from 20 or so half floors out the pull is barely noticeable. It gradually gets you going faster than the boat can sail, that's the doom part.
I should have a clip from twitch where someone built right up to the edge on the closet bit of land, you can stand and see the edge.

Given the way world generation pulls elevation patterns from a fairly small mathematical space I don't think it's possible for 'real' land to exist at the world edge. That region entirely overrides normal terrain rules.

Which is a shame because the occasional island hanging out into the void would have been awesome to find.

It gets very very close. I have sifted thru 100's of seed. It's not typically something I am concerned with personally. But I likely could find some good examples.
I will do a cursory glance thru my main seeds.
Yup, on none of my four mains do I see a spot where land touches the edge.
I have some that are within tiles but none that do.

The undertow/current there is incredibly swift. So you should be incredibly cautious approaching it. The wind will surely shift to directly away(towards the edge) and the current increases as you are drawn closer, like in a whirlpool. Even in a longboat using Moder power, you CANNOT escape. Do not go there unless you intend to lose that toon and gear. Irrevocably. If you simply must do it, use a trash toon and a raft. It is known-ish. I have clips.
I've seen that oddness myself, I don't think they tried to harvest from it.

I just imagined a hellish easter egg. If you can land on it while you are falling, the end is... different.

Somewhat OT but can you stop a boat at the edge of the world or will it got dragged down into the digital abys?

the boat itself can stand on the edge, but if the player steps on board - it will be dragged into abyss. There is a zone near the edge and slightly lower the ocean surface where player and player-driven vessels are forced to move outside the map.
