If you don't have a NASA computer it's not worth it. Otherwise, definitely go for it if you think a barren world with "DS" vibes will be your taste. It also has some survival elements here and there, but nothing like ARK or Rust. It's biome tries to be unique. And most importantly it's mostly bug-free (MOSTLY...).

Clicking on "news" here on steam shows the update that came out two days ago. So yes, it is still being updated ;)

Game had a major update just a couple of months ago, and a couple of bugfix patches since. Next major update is in pre-production planning. Full release will likely be in about 2-4 years [speculation, not from announcement], since they have 2 more biomes to finish defining and building and then the final bugfix and optimization pass.

Is it a good idea to buy now..? In my opinion the game as it is now is well worth the double. Should it be looked as some sort of investment for the future and what the game will become? Not in my opinion. No one knows when or if the game will be finished. The prognosis is good, again in my opinion, but no one knows. By my estimate we'll see Valheim being out of early access in 2-3 years from now. Could be sooner or later.

Tl:dr: Only buy early access Valheim if you believe you think it's worth your money currently. It's continuously being updated, but some/many thinks it's going too slowly. Me - I'm a satisfied customer since several hundred hours back.

Agree with the above in the main.
Games major content is updated quite slowly though they are pushing crossplay and connectivity between platforms heavily.
I'd estimate 65% content wise so a way to go yet.. that said. The content we do have is good with a fair degree of replay ability as the multitude of variation play (Speed Run pacifist run Hardcore run etc) videos show
Its certainly worth the current price - even when not on sale, as it now stands a refinement tweak patch is on the public test branch as we speak which I imagine with go live in a week-ten days if they follow the usual pattern.
on balance defo try it while its EA cheap.

two years for one new biome, still need two more biomes one at top and bottom of world. Got at least another 4 years EA.
