Slightly OT- Steam Cloud save update? Should I even care?
All my characters have a notification that they are saved in an outdated state. I have disabled steam cloud save a long time ago because of the horror stories I read in these forums. Since cloud save is disabled, why should I care? I just have to see those annoying boxes on my character select screen trying to get me to use their buggered up system.

Disable it when you can. Saving it to the "cloud" sounds cute and fluffy huh? It will always be there, and YOUR other stuff too.
Always collecting info and sending it... Everything goes to the cloud. To a place where it has to be cooled by an underground river. An underground river... EVERYTHING done in a data form is stored there, everything.

Look into windows 11, you won't even own your device that it's on.

Not sure this has anything to do with Valheim Dev team. It is likely a part of the contract with Steam that they offer the ability to sink with Steam's system. Steam imo is just trying to create new revenue streams. Get people to pay monthly or yearly for additional save space.
The Steam issues sure are the team trying to sync with a Steam "feature" of dubious merit sure. I was more referencing the Dedicated server ♥♥♥♥ up:
"We're really sorry about this, thank you for being understanding!"
The focus has to be on Bugs & Content not features for the Steam platform unless as you say, not having them violates the rules of selling via steam. The fact you CAN disable it means Steam considers it optional.

I'm with you. Not re enabling steam saves, the performance hiccups can kill ya...
The immediate need to patch the patch made me look under the lid in case a "Funcom" sticker had appeared on Valheims line up.
Lost more confidence in the Dev team over that than ALL the slow update threads combined. Fooling about with folks saves not updating their hard work in a timely manner is a Big No No for me. So off it SHALL Stay for now!

I also have Steam Cloud Save disabled because of what was going on with this game and another game I play that had problems with the Cloud Save.
After I saved my character when I finished playing, the patch notification that they are saved in an outdated state went away and I could find my current character save in the new “characters_local” under AppData (the old save location "characters" is still in the dir with you old character save in it, but no longer used by the game)
The 20 Jun 2022 patch added a fix to the Steam Cloud save and with that a different location for character and world save. The game now will :
Steam Cloud:
* Cloud save files will now be stored in Steam/[YourIDNumber]/892970 instead of AppData
* Local files will now be stored in “worlds_local” and “characters_local” under AppData and no longer be synced to cloud to avoid sync conflicts and dataloss when using multiple accounts on the same machine, and when using dedicated servers.
* Files still in the old file structure will be moved to the Steam Cloud or new local folder when used and a backup will be kept
