Broken Portals have ruined my game.
Established Portal near swamp boss.
Needed to alternate new portal between two bases.
Used new portal multiple times to both bases, switching the tag on the new portal as required.
Then on one occasion I switched tag on new portal to a base and went through.
Portal sent me to the wrong base...I now cannot portal out from this base to any of my other portals.
This has happened twice now. The only fix is to build a new boat and sail all the way back out to the new portal which i really cant be f**ked doing for a third time.
I know the team is small but the portal bug is game breaking bad. Why tag at all? How about just letting any of our portals be used to any other??

You could always just type in devcommands, debugmode and fly back. Also, you most likely are entering to the portal too soon after switching the tag, this has happened to me.

The fix is having a backup wildcard portal at your base that you can use for this situation

Keep two portals at your home base. Name one 'Home' (or whatever) and NEVER change it.
Go to your far off land. Plop your new port. Name it 'Home', then step through. At your base, rename your second port "Mines' (or whatever). Step back through your 'home' port to your new port and name it 'mines'.
Now if your portal goes awry you can always get 'home'.
With this method you can even leave your home base via portal A, walk overland to portal B, rename it 'home' to get home, the do the step through to put the names right again.
There is also a portal mod that links all the portals via a dropdown list. You can port straight from Port B to Port C without ever going back home. If you like portals, I highly recommend it.

This right here. I have 2 portals at my base. 1 goes to my portal hub and another as an emergency to get back to my base. Keep two portals at your home base. Name one 'Home' (or whatever) and NEVER change it.

Though i have never had any problems with my portals except for misspelling the word

apparently there's a short time after renaming a portal where the open portal from you being close is actually the portal to the old connection. either switch it while holding metal or eggs or let the portal fade out

If you rename a portal and step through too fast, it'll send you to the first location. It takes a up to a few seconds for it to switch targets, just the same as it takes a few seconds to connect when placing a new portal and naming it.
You got lucky with the timing several times, and then didn't.

Exactly this. The fix is having a backup wildcard portal at your base that you can use for this situation
At base, setup portals Temp1 and Temp2. When exploring bring materials for 2 portals. When you make a new location build 2 portals, Temp1 and a permanent one for that location. Go back to base using Temp1, make another portal at base for that location. Go through portal for that location. Remove Temp1 at that location.
Temp2 is a continual backup. Worst case if you get stuck; you look around for a dark forest biome near you, get some cores and some fine wood, and make a Temp2 portal.

When you are going to rename a portal, name it something that is not linked first.
Wait for the portal to unlink, then rename it to what you want.
This will stop you from entering a portal too soon and getting teleported to the wrong area.

Mark on your map the portal tags you have given to them.

...ruined, hardly? Make a boat, sail the seas...make 2 portals as suggested...stop renaming and instantly jumping through...many solutions available.

Takes 5 seconds or so for the portal to change location after you change the tag. This has benefits. Hopefully devs add a visual que.

The only 'bug' is the time delay. You went through too fast. Slow down.
I know this because I've done it myself, several times, and tested the mechanic.
Luckily for me I play with my wife and we keep two portals at home so she can just hop back and change my tag.

In all honesty, is better to just make a "portal hub" but directly in your "mother base" (basically a base where I place all important materials), I have one portal for each island I've discovered and place a portal mark on the map so I can remember the tag and where it goes.
The materials are by no means hard to earn, so trying to be "efficient" by saving materials on this one is just making you either use kys command or cheat eventually, with a cost in dignity and skill levels.

This is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bug, I had it happen once (renamed portal then went through it too fast). At Valheim bug tracker it's being shown as under construction[valheimbugs.featureupvote.com]. Can always upvote it more.
