He was on my server and as we were fighting a troll, he died and somehow the troll destroyed his tombstone and he lost all of his stuff (leather stuff, skeleton shield, flint blade, basic tools etc).

Easy to replace, but not sure if Ive heard of gravestones being destroyed. Its possible someone else just picked up all his stuff

Trolls can't destroy gravestones, but they might knock it away a bit especially if you died on a steep hill. Happens in the mountains sometimes. Look around down hill, maybe it's there.

Others have been losing them inside dungeons though. Were you inside a troll cave? If it fell through the floor you probably aren't going to get it back.

But you're early in the game. Go after the troll with a bow and slow it down by running between trees and jumping over logs, or cheese it by digging a trench and shooting across it. They move fast in open areas, but get slowed down by having to go around obstacles that you can jump over or fit through in the forest, just watch out for falling trees. Troll armor is better than the stuff you lost.

It may have deleted anyway. We searched the area thoroughly. When he died, he also lost connection and when he returned, it was gone. Anyway, we got most of the stuff back. That troll was hitting the area that his tombstone was in multiple times. Can a troll hit and fling a tombstone very far?

No, not very far, and it's really you that is being flung. Tombstone pops into existence and has a bit of momentum before landing. That's why the steep hill is a factor, makes it drift further before landing.

I have a feeling that its because the server disconnected that it removed my tombstone.

Kill the first boss and make pickax out of its drops. Go into Black Forest and find it's treasures.

I recommend an exploring run into the black forest and mark copper deposits on the way. Maybe lay down fires as well. Makes it a lot easier to mine them out methodically. You may also try getting enough copper to build a karve and go for copper nodes close to shore

Start sailing along the coastlines and look for tall dead trees, but don't land there! Try to find one next to a meadows or forest and walk over. (If the "meadows" has brown grass and red flowers, stay far away.)
