you plant the carrots back in the dirt after picking them up? mine are currently growing Remember, it's a two step process. Pant seeds for carrots. Then plant carrots for seeds.

yeh the whole health being tied to food thing is just dumb. they clearly didn't think it through or are just deluded enough to think it was a good idea. but they refuse to change it so we're stuck with this ♥♥♥♥ now. i just cheat for the best food and im going to do so until they implement a proper health system that doesn't make you a diabetic asthmatic because you didn't eat every couple of minutes

Honey has high hp regen, but low stats and short duration.
Berries are a very low quality food with low stats, low hp regen, and short duration.
If you want better stats (hp, hp regen, stam), you need to eat better food. If you're eating sausage, you can make better than raw berries.
Make sure you are rested. The rested status improves your stamina regen, hp regen, and xp gain. You can raise the duration of your rested buff by improving the comfort rating of your base. (Focus on a bedroom.)
Conversely, the wet status will penalize your stamina regen and hp regen. Stay out of water, stay out of the rain, and hang out near fire if you are wet.
Take care in combat. You don't need to heal damage you don't take. If a swing or shot misses, that stamina was wasted. Eat good food, upgrade/update your gear, and remember to block.
Lastly, while you have the Resting status, your hp regen and stamina regen are greatly increased. If you're in bad shape and don't need or are unable to drink a healing potion, hang out in shelter with a fire and you'll recover quickly.

I haven't had to in a while, but if nothing changed sitting next to a sheltered fire may speed it up or make it start faster.
Honey ticks are just to top you off if you get a small hit. Its not meant to be serious healing.
You do not heal much in combat. By design.

Berries are the weakest food. Even plain old meat is better than berries.
If you have access to sausage, that means you have access to swamp and probably black forest materials. You should have carrots by now, maybe in the process of getting turnips going. Carrot soup will give you stamina. Turnip soup is an upgrade from there.
Honey is good for early game healing, but by now you should be putting it into potions for even better healing and using that food slot for something more filling. If you hate farming at least turn your berries into jam.

If you are away from your base find a ruined house, troll cave, skeleton burial cavern, crypt or other shelter and build a fire. I build a fire in each crypt before taking on the ai, keeps me warm and I heal faster

By far, the swamp and mountain biomes are the most unforgiving in terms of geographical conditions. The swamps constantly make you wet thus your health regenerate really slowly even when you have the rested buff. Mountain on the other side drains your health if you dont have frost resistant potion/ cape. The mountain terrains also consume a LOT of stamina than usual when you climb upward and regenerates slowly. If you already found Mistland biomes, it pretty much looks like swamp but you might as well turn off your monitor since you cant see anything for how dark it is and I believe it gonna drains a heck tons of uor stamina and health too just to navigates around.

These points about food not determining health regeneration are plain misinformation. You don't need google to know this either. It is in the tooltip of every food item. Foods only increase your HP and stamina 'pools'...
The actual healing RATE is not determined from which foods you eat, but from having (or not having) a rested bonus, which is provided by sitting near a fire for a short time.
Eat the best foods, keep your 'restED' bonus up. And if you are in a real hurry, put down a fire for a 'restING' bonus.

The foods determine how much HP and stamina you have while 'under the influence' of those foods... Foods only increase your HP and stamina 'pools'...The increased values of those stats gradually decline as the food timers tick down and the foods begin to flash when the timer is about to expire, signalling you to refresh the timer by eating another piece of food.
The actual healing RATE is not determined from which foods you eat, but from having (or not having) a rested bonus, which is provided by sitting near a fire for a short time.
The rested bonus provides a +50% HP regen increase and +100% stamina regen increase over natural healing rates.
The amount of time that rested bonus lasts can be extended for longer periods of time by having additional 'comfort' items nearby while resting. These items include things such as rugs, beds, braziers, banners etc. and can potentially give you nearly 30 minutes of rested bonus if every possible comfort item is present within range of your resting spot. The bonus is always the same healing rates and the only thing that changes is the amount of time that rested bonus lasts, depending on how many comfort items were present while resting.

Running takes stamina. Keep positional awareness, know where all the enemies are. And then walk and turn to keep them all in front of you. Learn to parry and block properly and take deliberate swings instead of slashing away. You'll lose far less stamina and health, to the point the (rested buffed) regen can easily keep up with it. so Im running around ... like a chicken

All food has a health regeneration rate. That's the healing done per 10 seconds. Sausage (3), Honey (5), Berrys (1) so that's only 9 health per 10 seconds regen. With rested (+50%) that's bumped up to 13-14 per 10 seconds. However debuffs can knock it down. Wet (-25), Cold (-50%).
So if you're running around unrested, wet, and cold, that's only a couple up regeneration every 10 seconds.
This is why you don't want to fight at night time and why the swamp is so brutal. Low health gen on top of low stamina regen. It's also why being rested is so important. If the buff wears off drop down a camp fire and sit next to it for 30 seconds to get it back.

You heal faster if you are rested.
So make your fireplace and bed then just sit there for a few seconds you'll get a buff.
