Performance is still awful?
Decided to try Valheim again, a game loved by all, but it still runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
How many updates has this been now?
The exact same performance issues exist since it first came out.
I'm talking about the stuttering and inconsistent fps, barely pushing 120fps.
GTAV, Fallout 4, Vermintide 2, RDR2... to name a few off the top of my head, I can run at 120+fps, with near perfect performance, they are graphically far more demanding and with infinitely more on screen entities.
The ultimate test of hardware: Minecraft with far render distance and an HD texture pack? 120+fps, EZ.
So what is the Valheim devs excuse? They hide anything rendered in the distance behind fog and low res/low poly distant models. Literally everything in this game has a poly count of a Playstation 2 game... The lighting is great, the water is nice, but I don't see anything that should cause this game to struggle so much with performance.
Maybe it is assets being loaded causing the issues, or LoD constantly changing in the distance, or entity spawning/despawning... who knows...

Ive had similar issues but mainly due to mods, although one issue i notice is that when the game needs for your gpu and cpu to be used more it doesn't, resulting in stuttering. You usually see this happening with things loading in or mods trying to find prefabs for spawns. It was driving me crazy until i editing my boot.config and slightly overclocked my gpu. If anyone wants to try this out: go to your boot.config located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim\valheim_Data\boot.config" and add
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=
should look like this
"gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
wait-for-native-debugger=0
hdr-display-enabled=0
gc-max-time-slice=3"
This helps if you have a higher end pc like i do, valheim doesn't use your full gpu and cpu, especially during loading new territory and spawns. Also another tip would be setting vertical sync in your nvidia control panel to "fast." But yeah, this is extremely helpful for those people out there that use epic valheim, or just mods in general, and get ♥♥♥♥ performance. Also i would recommend installing NZXT cam to check your gpu usage and cpu usage
Have had problems with down to 30-40 fps in base (big stone castle) but good over 100 everywhere else on a rx6700xt. I edited the boot.config as you wrote. And now i have 60+ steady. Tried everything for weeks and this worked! Tyvm

im glad it helped! Also, another thing you can do is go to your windows settings and go to display then graphics settings and have windows set high priority to valheim, might squeeze some more fps

So instead of trying to solve your problems, you're only answering to argue people. If you're still having stuttering/low performance in Valheim, it may be something wrong with your rig. Probably harddrive.
Other games running fine does not mean your rig is fine.
Your profile states that you have a "top of the line gaming rig" and I highly doubt that, considering you're only getting 120 fps in gta5, a 10 year old game.
You even played GTA V at 2k resolution at max settings? I would say 120fps is pretty good for that...
I only have one 'stutter' and thats the world save stutter.

That horrible stutter half second freeze up went away for me a few months ago... Thank the Lord.

I dont know, you ask me?
If the game is barely running at 120 when you can get 120+ at RDR something's wrong on your end :o
Did you start a new save?
A: Running the game on HDD
B: Not enough fast lan
C: Thermalling.

Yeah, ok buddy. ...barely pushing 120fps... [compares to released games that cost 4 times as much as Valheim]

Unfortunately, Valheim has not been created by a studio worth billions of dollars with hundreds or thousands of employees like the games you compared it to. This means its development is slower and it will not be perfectly optimized like other games.
Additionally, it is still Early Access, meaning the developers may want to focus on adding all of the content into the game before fully optimizing everything. Every update brings new optimization problems, and as such it's easier to do the major optimization after everything is done. I believe they do optimize it relatively well for each content addition though.

You are listing released games. Valheim is still in Early Access. Optimization will come later.

Runs fantastic for me on a puny Radeon RX580, and using Willybach's textures mod. You don't need 120 fps to enjoy this game ffs.

If your map dates back to EA launch, you should try it on a fresh one.
Honestly my performance has gone down a bit lately, though I half suspect that my mods are not completely optimized. I'm blaming it on that for now until I get unlazy enough to do something about it.
