if you are worrying about how fast your pickaxe skill is lvling up, you are wasting brain juice

I miss being able to just practice fighting on a rock and levelling up a fighting skill that way.

Wiki says XP is typically per valid action. So any swing counts as long as it hits a hostile, chopping has to hit wood, bows have to hit targets(not birds), every block, etc. Any XP gained over time counts fractions of XP, so sprinting/swimming/riding(sprint only) gives XP.

Training in general treats all mobs the same. It's all about number of actions per minute.

You don't get xp for digging in dirt. You only get xp per hit on rock or ore. So digging out deposits slows your pickax xp gain instead of just hitting them directly. Using a lower level pickax will raise your skill faster.

This is why burying the deposit and trying to break it from above is the real move. Pickaxe skill is irrelevant to that technique.

I think you stated that backwards.

Personally I would rather be raising my pickax skill level in the black forest to make the times when I am in more danger go faster. But to each their own.

...or you could just blash each rock out in the Meadows and everywhere else you find them get your stone resources while receiving XP...
