how valheim world rendered?

I created my world about year ago and I'm wondering how is terrain created. Is it created at first start of the game as full world and can't be changed by patches or is it created as we travel for the first time to new locations?

From what I've seen with the multiple updates, it's both.

It looks like the main biomes and oceans are created from the start; however, at the same time every new feature will appear ONLY in unexplored areas.

So if you haven't explored all at the world you created a year ago, you're able to find all new features as well.

Thats awesome, I explored like 1/3 of my world and I think I'll left rest for every next update. Thanks for info! :paperheart:

Be warned though: the "unexplored" definition in this case is not completely equal to the fogged out part of your map. The game has a bit farther into the fog boundary that it considered not explored.

To try to make this a bit more clear, if prior to the ice caves update you had not explored a snow biome but you had for example explored around the parameter of it only exposing just a sliver or white around the edges of the mountain on your map, there is an extremely high chance that then when the ice cave update went live, some or all of the ice caves that were meant to be rendered did not because the game requires a farther distance of "unexplored".

So for all in intents and purposes, if you explored 33% of your map, take all fogged boundaries and extend out in the fog a typical mountain's width from there and that's what the game considered that you've "explored"
