Will frost caves spawn on old seeds or only new

Your experience isn't the definitive experience of the game. You got unlucky, cry me a river. I've gotten over 20 fur in ONE cave, that has nothing to do with rushing content. It's RNG. This is a procedural generated game. You can find none, or five, or thirty. I've seen seeds with 12+ caves really close to spawn, and I've seen mountain ranges further out that have nothing. I was able to craft the armor in like 2 hours of playtime. Don't like your seed? Try a different one. But don't act like that's just "how it is" because it's not.

They'll spawn on old seeds as long as you haven't gotten close to the mountains they're on.

These sound fun but I just truly want to be able to dig out my own sprawling mountain cave/dungeon/lair/fortress.

...Two days? That takes me like, five minutes to do. Draining a tar pit is easy.

First mistake is JOINING PTR... the caves were released.
Caves are only above the Obsidian line, if you don't see that rock, you are not high enough (giggle).
Swamp crypts are up to 64 m cubed... but cave systems are 128m cubed. There are walls to break through in the cave systems that open them up more.

As for the lack of caves, you are right, there just is not enough of them.

Tbf this game had odd mechanics from the beggining, like the fact that you cannot teleport metals and such. It's all about grind in the end, and you have to grind for everything is gonna be added. If it was easier to get the things you wanted the game would be 10 hours long top. Is not a story driven game, it's a survival open world, and if you want something you must grind for it.

i agree with you, personally thats why i like valheim, its the well thought out progress locked behind grind and planning.
but the difference between the "old" resources and tthe new tar and frost cave quantity loot is from my experience a lot less than old resources. either i just got extremly unlucky but i dont want to grind 50 frost cave to craft the whole new set.
these new resources are just too rare to get compared to the usual grind.
my explaining sucks i think. just so far i experienced a lot less loot for what i have to do.

Keep looking, one of the smaller caves I found only had 5 fur, but I had another fairly small one with 16, and a massive one with over 20, it's RNG :)

My loot from 2 mountains, 8 caves:

138x fenris hair
55x red jute
27x fenris claws
2x cultist trophy
8x iron bar
27x copper bar

The amount of loot is ok but could be a bit better, I am sure they adjust it in the future.

Some of the caves are huge. I died and then got thoroughly lost in one cave as I tried to retrieve my body. Probably took an hour to find it then get out, with tons of loot. I have made the full set of armour, the claws, and laid red jute carpet all over my floors, with still lots of loot left over. Though I have done 7-8 caves now.

I think people wanted light armor alternates. So we gots light armor alternates.
As for finding a mountain, if your draw distance is maxed you can see them from very far off in your boat. They have a giant long distance skyline. Finding a cave is another story.

caulkman7, you could always start a new seed and just go for materials in it.

You don't need the Wishbone. Not sure about the elevation question.

Caves are most in obsidian elevation and always in high slopes
Them are a pain to found because now mountains are full of big rocks on slopes making you so hard to see a cave from down and above ( and impossible on blizzards ) , good thing is that problem makes you easier to do the "mountain goat " , before was pretty hard going up in slopes because was near empty of big rocks to stop jumping for recharge stamina
And i found golems and dragons spawn a lot more when you are minning

they're pretty high up.. look for a flat spot, like where a mountain tower gets spawned.. there will be an area in front of the entrance that is perfectly flattened out.. you'll know the entrance when you see the big ice stalactites hanging down like fangs..

I've found Frost Caves at the mid level of mountains so they're not always near the top if the mountain is pretty tall. As for wishing for more--exploration/discovery is half the fun. If a mountain was riddled with caves you'd quickly grow tired of them. I like that they're a little sparser and you have to find them. Solid addition to the mountains, enjoyable.

They'll be in mountains, but the mountains have to be above a certain minimum height and/or larger than a certain minimum area, and they also have to be more than 500m away from any point you've already explored. Any mountainous areas that are within 500m of a point you've already explored will have been fully drawn in, without caves, and changes to the game don't affect areas that have already been drawn.

Do you have to be carrying Wishbone to find a Frost Cave ? Also do Frost Caves spawn below Obsidion line ( eleyation ) ?

Indeed, I just wish they were easier to find and more of them.

They're cool! I really like the new armor and mobs, too. I was super excited to show my friend in my server :) We had a good time hunting for them!
