I think the range of the spear is quite appropriate given that you can throw it too. Making it a stabby range weapon seems like it would become too good, unless you nerf the damage at the same time. I think it's good as it is.

Spear and atgeir have less range than sword and mace normal attacks lol

I love the spear early game for hunting, nice to not need arrows all the time. It really starts to lose it's appeal in the mountains due to
1) It's attack animation not dealing well with hitting enemies at slightly different elevations from you, and
B) Throwing the spear and missing likely means you have thrown it off the mountain.

Also the drakes make the bow required equipment, which is kind of a drag.

Really? I didn't know that, if true. I've done almost all game with spear, plus a bit with Frostner, and I've had little issues with the range. Although, if it's true that the range of the spear and atgeir is less than the sword and mace, maybe it should be balanced.. Maybe it's the sword and mace that have a range that is too great?
