Yeah, this was the reason. I tried to recreate my death scenario and noticed that when I jumped on one of the chests I was in smoke. I didn't notice it since was busy with item placement :(

That and death scenarios quite similar when it comes to player cleverness happened a lot more often to me that I care to admit. -.- I can't even count the number of times I rage-ALT-F4'd out of the game.

Depends on height if you are on second floor, you can take falling damage for jumping down. Eat simple foods so any damaged can be healed. Like raspberry, blue berry, mushrooms, veggies, or even honey (if you have hives). You can save the better food when hunting or exploring new places. Takes about 3 days or so for gather foods to respawn.

That's a weirdly unhelpful message. Makes it sound like you had a stroke or something.
