building roofs..

can some explain to me why i'm not allowed to put the last 2 pieces of my roof together..

every time i try to put a roof piece, it instantly breaks.
it's getting really annoying. i can't get the shelter bonus because the roof pieces won't stick.

The only thing that kills me is leveling a piece of ground perfectly flat, making sure your foundation is all the same coloring when building a frame, and yet somehow, something inside will be asymmetrical as far as support coloration goes despite everything below it, and on the same level on the opposite side, being the same.

Like.. left side, second level.. everything green. Right side, second level.. everything green except this one random post or two in the middle that are somehow further up from the ground or something, despite the entire ground level being the same shade of blue.

Has happened to my last two structures using Core Logs/Beams as supports, kills me every time. Doesn't prevent me from building anything desirable, but just irks my OCD a bit.
I started using the cheap wood horizontal posts as measuring and leveling tools for similar reasons when planning stuff out. Even if the ground is treacherous you can just prototype out some lengths/elevations you want first with snap to grid.

Stability system:
Blue is best and begins by touching the ground. 5m core wood poles are the best foundation pieces, or giant stone blocks (also resource efficient). You can keep them blue a good ways up by touching other pieces with verticality like walls or the inverted angle pieces for side supports which looks nice and helps on the triangle style. You can use core wood and stone blocks to clip into many wall structures even with a grid snap and reinforce them solidly this way.

Then it progresses through shades of green, yellow, to red, then crumbling in the air.
Don't sleep on 26 degree roofs instead of 45, I had a ton of trouble doing square buildings before I learned this, they are a lot easier to work with in many situations including emergency cabins for your mining while in combat.

By looking at the bottom image, it looks like you need more support beams... starting with those ^ windows.

from the second picture, it doesn't look like the support beam reaches all the way to the top. like a half beam should finish it.
