Will I need to restart after “major” updates ??
Hi,
I’ve played for about 300 hours and am enjoying this game … I enjoy slow playing and “wandering around”.
I’ve got about 15 mods (V+,Better Trader, etc, etc) and about 20 bases scattered around.
But now I’m at a crossroads …
Do I continue building my main base into a village/town (because that’s the part of the game I enjoy the most .. I admit I’m rubbish at the fighting element) or do I hold off until some of the major updates arrive in the future ?.
And …. Will my game still be playable after these updates arrive or will I need to start again?
I understand that the game is early access and is under development … I’ve no complaints about this and I’m happy to wait until they’re ready to release these updates.
I would appreciate if this thread/my question doesn’t end up in a row about “developers have abandoned it, it’s too slow to update etc etc”
Those discussions are for one of the many threads that get locked.
This is more about is it possible for me to continue pottering about but being able to play this world long term or should I hold off for a while.
Many thanks for any input.

I don't see a point in restarting on a new map. Why would you do that? If you carry on the characters, then its basically just oneshotting the bosses, and you have lost your old bases, memories, and exploration for... what exactly? My "team", including my wife and a very few close friends plan on a map wipe (restart the game fresh) once Hearth & Home is out, even if it is possible to continue using the one we are on. We just finished the Moder boss, and we plan to gear up and savor Boss #5. Hopefully Hearth & Home will release after we "win" the game. If not... we *might* start with a fresh map anyway and play until then.
The great thing about a map wipe is that you get to take what you learned from the prior map and see how well you can hit the same goals, or even new goals on the next one.
I could see a merit in completely restart with naked characters, but thats a different story.

A new playthrough will likely have a new progression experience. I will definitely restart.

Well is an option if anyone wants , but not a need when all biomes are already in the game but empty, updates just will fill up these biomes
This isnt 7d2d where in any alpha u have to nuke your seeds

The empty biomes should populate with new content, but areas that have already been explored may not.

Why *wouldn't* you want to restart for a major update?!

There will be new parts to build with, though.

The only real answer is that no one knows for sure.
New items like onions may not have spawn points generated in places you have already been and exposed the map already.
New build parts in menus should not be an issue unless they use some new resource.
Personally I develop a seed to a certain point I am happy with it and start a new seed and repeat. This way I don't "over explore" my only world, and have plenty of worlds to choose from when they do add stuff to expand with.

Thanks GunsForBucks ….
That’s what I was expecting, tbh …. That no one knows …
I’ve not really explored that much of my world because I feel I’ve been lucky with my seed.
Basically everything I need (for now) is in/on the 2 main land masses I’ve explored.
I’ve defeated Bonemass and can enter mountains/plains and defend myself or run away.
I was going to wait until I attempt to take on the other bosses as the game progresses. I’m in no rush and can potter around gathering resources/ building houses that have a great view etc.
I’m happy to put the game on hold for a few months and then start up again when the “hearthfires??” Update arrives.
I don’t want to fill up my game with too many little mods that fill the gap only for them to screw up my build at a later date.
I can always go back to my Fallout 4 game and build a few more settlements there. I’ve over 23 days of gameplay there but don’t really “enjoy” the post-apocalypse vibe … although the building options are a lot better.

I'm on my 2nd go round. When the update drops I plan on starting a new world from scratch one way or another. On my original world I'm stocking up on everything for "just in case".
