Guided by Thor's lightning
A couple of days ago, in a multiplayer world, we were in search of an alternate Moder location. The first one we had found looked very awkward for fighting her, as there was nowhere for her to land, and no easy way for us to move around.
The search took hours and hours. Every vegvisir we found, farther and farther from the known location, showed that same location.
We explored every mountain we already had discovered, we sailed east, we sailed northeast, we sailed north, we were forced to turn around by Plains and Mistlands, we were forced to sail around Plains and Mistlands, for several, long hours.
Until, finally, yet another mountain loomed in the distance, somewhere very far north. As we approached it, the mountain was struck by lightning, then struck by lightning again. We were so far from the world spawn that I assumed the mountain would be, once again, surrounded by Plains and Mistlands -- but it was not. I spotted the unmistakable shapes of pines in the distance, and soon thereafter lightning struck above that patch of Black Forest.
We took this as a good sign, as such a thing had never happened to us before. The Black Forest was a narrow strip between two Plains areas, but we were able to go ashore there and reach the snows we could see behind it. Turned out the first snowy area was Deep North, beyond which stood the mountain. Like I said, we were very far north.
We climbed the mountain, hoping to find a structure with a vegvisir that would show us a second Moder location. On previously explored mountains, we had found next to no stone structures, only log cabins, which had seemed unusual.
This lightning-struck mountain did not disappoint us. Our very long search was ended by a vegvisir showing us a Moder location just northwest of the location of which we already knew.
On that day, we were guided by Thor's lightning, and have since defeated Moder at the location we discovered on that remote mountain marked by lightning.
Perhaps Odin is not the only one who watches over vikings in Valheim; perhaps Thor does more than just ride his wagon.
