Repairing Tools/Weapons

Has there been any talks of making repairing tools cost SOMETHING and not be completely free?

I love almost every other aspect of this game but the free tool repair is just a giant sore that sticks out. Even if it was something like you can use materials to increase it's durability/damage past the base or something.

Having the tools/weapons just be free real estate to repair has always taken the wind out of me when playing this game.

A bit more immersion or, like i suggested, allowing it to 'buff' the item if you do repair it with materials instead of for free.

Right now, there really isn't even a point to have durability since all it does is require you to either carry a workbench with you or go back and just spam the repair button.

unless it cost greydwarf eyes or bones to repair, this would just annoy me cause it'd be another thing I'd have to grind.

Considering that some weapons already cost a lot to build and upgrade, it would be pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to also have to "pay" to repair them.

I'm actually the total opposite, weapons and tools wearing off is just annoying as f. They should get rid of this mechanic.

Nope , every weapon or tool are free for repair
Only torches or these kind of this with some combustible resource will not return the combustible ( wood , charcoal , graydwarf eyes , green stuff )

There's probably a mod to add even more grind like that.
Lets keep the repair mechanic as it is.
imo the pickaxe wears too fast and the only thing I must carry at least 2 of.

Everything costing zillion bars to make and upgrade is fine for repairs being free.
If you were to add repair cost to that, with the no teleport with metal bars on... yeah, sounds like a winning strategy.

Having to click on 4 or more stations every time I go home is punishment enough.

Why would there be talks like that? If you love this game something minor like this would not bother you. Developers probably wanted you to focus on some other part of the gameplay instead of more grinding, which there already is ton of

I loathe games with this upkeep feature, because it penalises people with less time/energy for playing.

If it's a feature you and others want, obviously i'd support it for you, but only if it was optional, because I 100% don't want it, and it would put me off playing completely.

Having a powered universal repair station would be nice, but I'd hate it if individual items started requiring different resources to repair them.

Google search found a mod that appears to be what OP wants?
https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/215
The mod community might advise on other similar options if you post over there.

PS. I only play vanilla Valheim so far.

If tools had to be repaired by someone else I could understand paying for it. As it stands, you repair your own tools. Hmm, maybe being able to buy tools from Haldor?

I'm not asking for the repair cost to be some steep thing. I'm also not wanting the tool/weapon to disappear when it does 'break'.

The idea I had in mind was a very common resource depending on the item. Wood, stone, flint, core wood, etc. Items that you will usually had loads of regardless. Which removes the grinding aspect everyone seems to think you would need to do just to repair.
