Edit: Do you have Steam’s cloud save on? You might be able to restore your game from there. Not sure how it works, though. Worth a try.

I don't think it's fair to require that players back up their saves in a game, lol

It is not required. It is completely optional. But if you care about your stuff, it is a good thing to do. I do it even for non-beta games; not doing it for a beta is ... high risk.

Actually they are. If you go into your Valheim world files there will be a file with the extension .old. That is your backup file.

Alternatively, go here: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

Press CTRL F to find Valheim, then click Show Files or something like that. Locate your World saves and download them. Then stick them into your LocalLow Valheim folder. Make sure to back-up whatever you already have, in case.

Load up the game and check if your world and contents are there.

People need to understand that this achieves nothing - the game's just overwriting the same world each time. If anything saving multiple times just increases the window for something to go wrong.

Disable Steam Cloud, always quit the game cleanly, keep backups.

Can't believe you didn't mention the most important thing:

Backups.

If you have not logged on too many times (like 2 or 3 at most) you might be able to restore something from:
C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds
and
C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters

You have two sets of files in each of those directories. One is your current game and the other is your previous game.
Look for files with your character's world-name and character name. One set of those will have the file extension ".old"

COPY YOUR CURRENT GAME TO A DIFFERENT FOLDER BEFORE THE NEXT STEP
Your current game has the same parameters as above, but without the .old extension
IF YOU HAVEN'T COPIED YOUR CURRENT GAME, DO IT NOW
Rename your .old files so they have the same name as the current ones (you'll have to delete your current ones, I bet- you copied them, right?)
There's a small chance your castle is in those old files.

its too late, i found where backup was stored but i had already re-logged twice so it overwrote old save with new one today permanently ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wiping my save. thanks for help but i unknowingly messed up. turned off cloud storage and made new backups in separate folder so hopefully i wont make this mistake again.
