pro tip when hunting serpents. Use a bow, and when you see a sliver of health left on a serpent. Jump off the boat as it approaches and shoot so you can get the drops before they fall to the depths of the ocean. It's better than harpooning and wasting your time dragging them to an island.

Thanks for the additional insight! I didn't know you can jump on them and still collect the trophy, that's good to know.

Yeah finding them is not too bad, just a combination of good luck and bad weather :).

The technique I like to use is Fireball diving, weaken a serpent to like 10% or lower with fireballs (The Arbalest works too, but might overkill too soon so or not kill it with its huge damage range). Then for the last hit, dive onto his head while casting a fireball or shooting. You should be able to catch the trophy even in the ocean.

If your trouble is finding them, sail in a straight line at night, half sail or oar power at night, though ideal conditions is storm+night you aren't the CIA and can't control the weather.

Good question LemonCakes. Thus far by the process of elimination I know neither the regular Dvergr or Mossy are their cuisine of choice. It used to be that tuna & most or all of the fish (a lot like it is in real life), would bite at anything, even though it was not their assigned bait. Twas random and rare but it did happen from time to time. I did appreciate that aspect of randomness, it kept us on our toes.

Hopefully I will have an answer to the elusive tuna question before day end, and remember, you can tune a piano, but you can't tune a fish ...

Heavy bait, since it counts as an Ocean fish like the coral cod.

Recipe is a Serpent Head, and a Pike.

Indeed thank you for that TH. I just read the recently updated Wiki (2 days ago) and it is Heavy Bait. I have over 4000 hours into Valheim, multiple stacks of Serpent Stew, and in all that time I have only ever managed to acquire 1 Serpent Head. It seems the drop rate has not increased either, because I have been Serpent hunting for weeks now with no luck.

My luck finding serpents seems to have run its course. They are no longer at any of the familiar haunts I have marked on my map. In the past 10+ days I have come across 2, and 1 of them got away, after trying to drag it to shore and getting mobbed by fulings, leeches and draugr's. They actually sank my vessel, which has only happened once before. My new strategy is if I run into them, I run into them. I always sail with the harpoon in the action bar and plenty of frost arrows in my quiver.

yeah we've DEFINITELY ended up in trouble dragging the serpent to plains/swamp. It is tough for sure. Frost arrows is a really good idea!

You have the worst luck ever if you have 4000 hours and only one serpent head

If you want to farm the head for seperents, you have to mark every location on sea where you spotted them and drag them to land with harpoon.
Generaly i spot most of them in starting area betwen the sea, meadows and black forest and more down i go.....well its like they dont exist down there.

Waiting for a storm helps a lot + night time.
