Please let us murder Ulf

Seriously. Call it an easter egg, a side quest, whatever. Make it so, similar to Haldor but in a later biome, we can find Ulf in the world. And murder his ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass.

He's probably badass, considering that despite his unbelievable stupidity he somehow makes it to at least the mountain biome. I don't care. I can take him. LET ME KILL HIM.

When I find a runestone, only to read it and see his moronic words and feeling how it literally kills my brain cells as they try to downgrade themselves to understand his level of unintelligence, I experience nothing but rage.

LET ME KILL HIM.
LET ME KILL HIM.

FOR ODIN'S SAKE LET ME KILL HIM.

Hmm... As of now i am thinking he may be the real villain in this world and Odin wants us to get rid of him. Yes.. that's our main goal, the final encounter!
According to lore, they resurrect from time to time. But what if Ulf made a pact with a forsaken and now he inherited his powers in exchange for protection? :O
Or maybe a forsaken messed up his mind. You can choose between getting rid of both or save poor old Ulf from the claws of evilness.

There should be a prison in the Deep North containing an Old One that is corrupting creatures' minds...

every game has room for comic relief!
even the aptly named iron gate felt like a shout out. There are a few more around as well.

As a matter-of-fact, the build system almost (but not quite) lets you build top-down in some cases. Ulf's advice is funny, but it functions as a hint, too.

I, personally, wouldn't mind seeing more of the wisdom of Ulf. :)

That said, I don't think Ulf is stupid. The third person talking seems stupid nowadays, but was common for nordic writing. He seems to be an undereducated person unable to transmit all his toughts in words because of the lack of it. Also Ulf seems to be a good hearted person, since his stones always provides helpful tips for newcomers. Lastly, he's an Odin's warrior testing his value, just like you.
I'd like to know he's now at Valhalla, after accomplishing the hard work of Odin. Seeing other stones around, he might be the only one.

Maybe Ulf is the doomed fisherman of the caves?

Ulf ultimately ends up a draugr elite captured and modified by the Dvergr. Now he is a zombie with a sawblade for an arm.

Are you seriously saying that Ulf's instructions on how to build a house are useful advice for new players? Because I'm saying it's poorly written and ineffective comic relief that has no place in this game.

There is no relation, as far as I know. "Ulf" is a common name among Ulfs. Yet, I somehow feel obliged to defend this great pioneer, to whom I am not at all related.

You simply do not understand the Wisdom of Ulf.

While some of the sayings of Ulf are just too profound for utterance, his explanation of building a house from the roof downward is a practical hint about how to use the building system, which will almost let you do that. This can sometimes make measuring faster and easier than laying things out on the ground.

So there.

You can't kill anything in this game, we're already dead. The proper phrasing is 'Please let us send Ulf home to bed.'

His runestone is also in the Mistlands. He's a throwback to the WWII Kilroy character.

Actually i think Astrid may be even dumber. She spent SEVEN YEARS in Valheim without figuring out what to do, until Odin himself had to write it down for her in full caps.

+! I love it!

But in addition expand it so we can meet ALL the Runestone Named Authors (Astrid sounds Valkyrie material!)

Bonus thought how about allowing us to make our own rune stones? Say one per Biome? So we can leave our own notes in an ongoing server perhaps?
