you can literally run circles around them shooting arrows at them. this tactic works on most mobs in the game including bosses

Note that unless you're camping out within site of him he won't move at all. Everything basically hibernates in place when their part of the map is inactive, i.e. you're not within visual range of them.

since trolls have such slow swings dodge roll+spear also works well. this is also much better for taking out cave trolls than a bow, the bow only staggers them if you're really fast but the spear lets you get off like 4 stabs before it can react, if you're lucky it will only be able to swing once

Enable /devcommands and enter god mode to kill him and get your corpse.

get your dodge timing down and use him to mine that copper thats what i do lol

Killing the troll is not the only answer. He is camped out on your corpse because that is the last place he saw you. Eventually he may wander away; eventually you may win the lottery.

What I would do is lead him away from the corpse. Given your situation, I would cross the river upstream or downstream out of his sight. Circle around to approach the troll/corpse location from the side opposite the river. Then get his attention.

Once you have his attention, he will chase you. You need to keep ahead of him while remaining in his line of sight for at least a hundred to a hundred and fifty meters. Then find rough terrain/a wooded area where you can break his line of sight and sneak away from him.

Once he has lost track of you, he will remain where he is. Circle back around and pick up your corpse.

You will learn how to kill trolls efficiently as you progress. The idea is to stay alive while doing so.

Note 1: It is entirely possible that you will aggravate other enemies during this process. Don't panic. Lead them away from your corpse also. You should be able to pause long enough to kill them off a little at a time.

Note 2: This strategy will be useful against bosses and other enemies also.

you can lure the trolls away, its a good tactic to get the troll near a tomb
normally the troll will start fightin the skellies
this gives you enough time to retrieve your stuff.

when the trolls is on the skellies you also can hide, the troll might lose the focus on ya and wanders away

The good news is he was previously camped on a copper deposit, so I'll go get that first ;)

Violence isn't the answer, go talk it out with him. Apologize for encroaching on his territory and ask if you can have your things back. Explain that you are trying to find copper so you can go kill nasty skeletons, maybe he can help.

Agreed. Kite him and use Bow to kill it. Watch your stamina.

You can outrun him with the 1st boss power that lowers stamina drain. So you can either draw him off a good ways. Make sure he follows for awhile. Then lose him. I can't see him going back to your body after that.

Alternately use the stamina power to keep ahead of him and then turn and shoot bow. Might have to repeat 12 times. This is much better in the meadows. If Trolls are at the border of meadows/black forest, draw him into a clearing cause he will walk more straight and no trees to get in the way. You can tell when you just need to run by how loud his footprints get. Should go high stamina foods for kiting this way.

If its a bad area, just draw him off and get body after.

I easily kited 2 trolls at once with no armor and crude bow and just wooden arrows. Just takes some practice and maybe 5 minutes to kill 2 at once if no stats/gear.

Get in a couple shots and normal run, use sprint sparingly. When you hear the troll slam the ground turn and hit him a couple more times, run ....repeat. It will take a few cycles but you can do it. If there is an open meadow nearby leading him there might help. IIRC head shots will stagger him so aim high.

Actually in the meadow there are no obstacles for him to have to go around to slow him down. I found much greater success staying in the forest and running through trees too close together for him to follow or off vertical jumps he will not walk, which give me time to regain stamina.
