Even if it doesn't have crypts look around for the yellow turnip flowers to upgrade your food.

Find the swamp that has the bonemass altar in it; it should have plenty of crypts.

Haven't found it yet. Not killing the Elder before we're ready to reap the rewards that come with the cost of more difficult raids. And... I also think we'll be waiting until casual mode gets added, because we don't really enjoy corpse runs and compounding loss of skills.

The swamp will find you, literally. You will be exploring and you will stumble on it.

Basically this, there are just a few types of biomes in the game, you just need to travel farther with a proper ship (not raft).

Enter your seed here and you will see it where swamps are.

unless you are playing some kind of hardcore mode then I strongly suggest using the seed viewer online to find a good swamp. Iron is the most needed mineral in the game by far and unfortunately, there are loads of swamps on every map that have no crypts. some people look thru upwards of 10 swamps before they find one with crypts. that's how it is. lots of tiny, empty swamps and a few large swamps FULL of crypts. I spend a lot of time looking at random seeds on the viewer and I've noticed that this has only gotten worse after the mistlands update. Mistlands areas are MUCH larger than before and this has the effect of squeezing everything in toward the middle because the mistlands are all around the edges of the map. swamps were small in comparison to begin with and they are even smaller now.
given all this, I personally don't feel bad looking online for a decent swamp.

When I sail around it feels like I find more swamps than anything else. :D

You can spot them from a distance either by trees or the splintered coasts. Sail around.

Walking and searching helps. If not sailing and looking for swamps should do the job. Btw don´t park your boat at the swamp or you´ll lose it to leeches that have a hatred for boats.

Look for a bunch of low lying terrain in the distance, if you are looking over ocean you can see that miles further than the spookytrees

Make a karve and sail around a bit.

there should be a few... bigger swamps means higher chance of more crypts
