All this doesn't matter. IF there will be an actual update which will change things that much, you can really be sure that it will take single YEARS to be delivered. At least if they continue to work that "hard" as they did, since release... Title ^, any info on this would be appreciated. I'm not worried. just be a good excuse to start over again. Every time I make something I get a new idea for something else.
Just hope we are given fair warning so we can take a few... *sniff* screenshots *sniff*

If a restart is required I look forward to remaking my fortress on top of a large stonehenge again.

This got discussed in another thread that might be useful for you - https://steamcommunity.com/app/892970/discussions/0/4263206669447091427/
Essentially no one knows for 100% sure, not even the devs. Ideally they want to avoid forcing people to start new maps because they know people are investing a lot of time into their worlds, but it may be unavoidable based on a few factors.
So, if you're able to accept the gamble, go for it! Otherwise if you'd rather play it safe hold off till H&H is out in a wee while.
Hope that helps :)
