Haven't played in a couple years - feedback on current state / content
I enjoyed the game very much, put a lot of hours into it but stopped playing primarily because there was not much to do in the game. Lack of content I suppose.
Have they added more content to the existing areas in addition to new areas?

I might get booed for this, but if what you played was considered 100%, then they have added about 30% more content. IMO, wait for the cake to bake a bit more, hopefully the next "major" update drives it home.

Short answer: Yes.
Slightly longer answer: Abominations, frost caves, tar pits, fishing, some minor stuff like the hot tub. Not included in this are the things contained within the previously listed features, like creature loot or new gear and other items made from loot or new materials.

Appreciate the answers, I think it's best to wait longer before coming back.

I must add that i think its worth it. Valheim has tons of players. It has epic building, Great variety, and a major challenge with the new content. There's only a few things that people keep complaining about on the forums but i mean, i don't even pay attention to it and i love the game. Just saying. Multiplayer could be like way easier to join others but other than that the game is solid afoxtrot.

I was a lot like you: I played this game extensively about two years ago. I stopped, mainly because my friends were progressing far faster than I was. They were fighting Möder and doing Mountain stuff, while I was basically trying to get through Bonemass.
My friends don't play Valheim anymore, but since I had the game, and Mistlands came out, I decided to give it another try. I started a whole new character on a new seed, and I have to say, I've never enjoyed this game more.
I like the food revamp, the Frost Caves, the new content they made for the swamp, and other quality of life improvements, and I haven't even progressed to Mistlands yet. The first time around was pressure filled. This time I'm enjoying the game a lot more. I got more creative with my building, more strategic in my progression, and I established a much better foundation than I did the first time.
Now can I say that you'd have the same experience as I did, @Tibbers, if you were to decide to come back to Valheim and start a new world? I can't say you would.
But think of it this way. You already payed for the game, and you don't need to pay out anything more, or get a subscription, or invest in any DLC or tokens to play this thing again. If you are curious, what do you have to lose just giving it another shot?
