What i just read here. This is too good.

Real hogs don't follow the farmer. They are moved from one pen to the next by means of gates and chutes by getting behind and putting your heel in their backsides and stopping them going the way you don't want them to go by putting a boot heel in their snouts.

You can train them to follow food. In fact, that's how they get hogs to race. They put one oreo cookie in the slop trough at the end of the track. After the first time the hogs know its there and they also know that the first one there gets the cookie.

In game you can throw food and if the boar is hungry it will go toward the food. You can pick the food up and throw it farther and the boar will continue following until it gets the food.

Why would you expect in game boars to behave differently than real ones?

it doesn't spawn 2 star boar already tried it, and again we shouldn't need to use console commands to fix a basic feature in a game that has been out for over 2 years...this dev team needs to be held accountable and start fixing these problems, all they have to do is copy paste the follow command from the wolves NPC files to the boar, should take them all of 15 minutes

Did you put the command on console or just in normal chat? I totally agree that its trash to use console but better than to purely get boars again and lose them to the same unfixed issue.

Why do you think its broken?

You do know, having played the game, that in some situations (standing stones and abandoned farms) the boars found there are tethered to those locations so even if you are able to tame and get them to your base they will, if they escape, go back to where you found them.

Other boars are not tethered, but if they escape and get spooked they will run off (jut like tamed wolves can move far away from their 'stay' point if they start to chase/chain kill mobs in the area).

And why would you expect boars to follow you like tamed wolves? By taming boars you are preventing them from being scared of things like fire and making them passive to you. They are not meant to be companions.

Also you can always harpoon them if it is that problematic.

But just because tamed boars do not behave like YOU think they should does not make the mechanic broken.

Emphasis added. Yeah this is the Iron Gate acknowledged bug OP is talking about.[valheimbugs.featureupvote.com] These things freak out and keep trying to return no matter what, sometimes not even eating or breeding - it's not just if they get loose. And although OP went way off the rails and apparently got banned already I do sympathise that it's quite frustrating.

So if the OP knew this then why would they tame a boar from one of these locations when there are so many other areas to find them in? Seems self inflicted.

When the bug happens, even a two-star is easy to replace by a newborn piglet. The bug is not inherited by piglets.

Also, instead on taming boars on their site, it looks better, when possible, to make them pursue you and pull them into a pen or a barn, where you can tame them.

can you nut just like breed a 2 star boar where you found it and just take the fresh spawn piglet with you instead? as pretty sure these arent bound to the location.

but i didnt bother much with breeding as currently most of the breed results seem fairly pointless gameplay wise anyway due to thier materials not beeing used for lategame food anymore. aside lox meant but well meat platter is bad use of hare meat in the first place anyway so that thing is out aswell.

can use wolfs to protect base i guess. or make lox moats? not sure how useful that is tough given seekers can fly anyway.

Shouldn't have to cheat to have basic functions work after 2 years...they deserve the hate for taking all this money and not hiring more staff or focusing purely on this game, nobody paid them for early access for THIS game for them to take the money and put it into other projects, these devs are thieves and totally out of touch and anyone defending them is just simping at this point...2 years for one biome and it is garbage? These guys are scam artists...

It's almost as if there's nothing to fix.

currently the game is still in developement - make you bugreport nice and easy so the devs might get things fixed

in the meantime "using devcommands" is the master solution - its fine imho if you spend so much time to get your 2 star boar
spawn one in and play the game like it used to be played (your way)

Can't spawn 2 star boar...and can't force them to follow you either, the boar AI is just totally broken and 2 years later just getting basic food farm set up is still totally broken...
