And then the troll came to dinner

SPent an ungodly amount of time building a house with two storeys, smelter, basement.......... up on a very high embankment on the sea which is pretty much impregable to almost everything. I access it via a narrow causeway and I put a pair of gates at either end which totally mess up most mobs. Unfortunately a club wielding troll figured it out and absolutely destroyed my dreamhouse.

I ain't sure how I can protect my hearth and home from this. I need to be able to access it and while wooden gates keep out the greylings, trolls just smash it to splinters.

You're kidding, right? JUST 2 DAYS AGO,
we've spent an (irony) "ungodly amount of time" explaining you *everything* you need to know:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/892970/discussions/0/3827536762643275679/#c3827536762645042277

And then you ignore all those answers and come here and ask exactly the same?
You realize how this discourages people from helping, right?

Just make a bridge, with a slight gap in the middle. You can make it as wide as you want. The small gap will stop all monsters. If you make the gap small enough you don't even need to jump, but can just walk across.

A single wood beam works as a bridge too and no need for you to jump, They do like to break it though.

Guaranteed I'd fall off that sucker into my own moat.

its twice now that a troll spawned in a base, it has workbenches and other stuff inside and around it, surrounded by moat and embankments the troll cannot climb over

Not really elegant, but until we get our drawbridges in the vanilla-game, it might help. (If you want, there's a mod with drawbridges called "More Gates", but idk if it's up-to-date)

I'm assuming that the troll will go smashy smashy as soon as he gets to it, but removing that one segment as a failsafe isn't a bad idea.

That would make me uninstall and go back to Witcher3. I don't mind the game being hard but that's retarded.

Unless you want to go the moat / dirt wall route, you need to be prepared to kite trolls away from your base. It's not hard to slow them down enough to give you a minute to "get your pants on", then you run out there and lead them away from the base.

That's generally true for most raids as well. You just need enough defenses to give yourself a minute, and then you can go out and deal with them.

I should have been more precise in my description. I'm completely surrounded by a moat on all 4 sides, 8 m deep. However he was clever enough to find the narrow causeway. Without that causeway, I can't access the base myself !!! As I said, a pair of wooden doors usually discourage the lower level mobs. If they tear one down, the other invariably stops them.

make bridges over the moats so all the trolls can do is break the bridges, just make sure you can also jump over parts of the moat while sprinting incase the bridge is destroyed

Brilliant !!!!!! A nice 8m long skinny-ass bridge should break if a troll steps on it, ya ?

Yep, moat. But in general, I've tried to give a few tips here . It's pretty much a walkthrough for the BF but hopefully you can get an idea on how to secure your base (further down in 'GTFO (Base-Building, Safety & Raids)').
