Yeah, Nexus mods has a hub for this game. Some of them are simple like torch fuel burning more slowly/never running out or everything through portals... some of them are zany like gliders you can fly with.

Personally, I think you're overreacting a bit. The ocean seems scary but so long as you pay attention it's very unlikely you'll be having any deep sea wrecks. This game has great atmosphere and boating down winding rivers or through treacherous storms is, I think, part of the experience.

In nearly 600 hours I've never had a boating loss I couldn't recover from.

They want you to have to use boats if you could teleport everything boats would become obsolete

Portal is especially useful when you unexpectedly die far far from your last bed /respawn point.

Yea but I don't want to use boat, that is the point, I intended to avoid it, like what happens if I die at sea? It has not happened to me but I don't want to test it out. Sea is scary. Now they just killed the mean for me to survive.

I guess it's intended for you to build a base close to the next ore linked to the next biome... Fortunately though : you can relocate furnaces

Oh well. It's a viking game. Vikings use boats. Portals are only meant to allow you to quickly hop from place to place, but you'll need a boat in order to transport ore long distances.

Unless you got lucky with your world generation, at some point you're going to be forced to leave your starting continent and explore the world if you want to progress.

Or it can be used to quick transport ores, as it should be, so that you can avoid unnecessary risk of long traveling, time consuming and possible death.

It's a big world out there. Unless you used a specialized seed to spawn your world it's not super likely that you'll be able to reach every biome/boss/resource without travelling to another continent. Boats gonna happen.

Your tombstone will be floating where you died, you can still go back and get that. If you somehow managed to destroy your boat your cargo will be gone.

If that's all too big and scary for you there are mods available for this game, and teleporting ore has been a popular one since release.

Well so far lucky enough that my continent has little swamp and mountain biome (not that vast but still good enough). I guess that I have to travel by sea more often in future, if I find plain and other biomes from another continent. Damn it, the portal restrictions just ruined my plan. I don't intend to get killed over stupid decision risking traveling too much.

the point is to quickly cover the huge distances the game offers rather than walk or sail it.
its not, clearly, designed to get your ore transported directly but it does cut the journey in half if you rebuild your boat at the ore-end, and it also makes it handy to go get other stuff that can be ported or to dump your bags mid-journey as you explore.

oh really? There is mod? I haven't tried any mod on this game yet, I got like 100+ hours (yea I'm slow player, I grind lots on skills and armors, I haven't even fought Elder yet) but I haven't tried out any mod. Maybe I will look for one.

This is it. Think of portals like checkpoints. You explore with you ship, find a nice place to mine and gather stuff, and you build a portal to go back and forth in order to:
- Repair your tools and weapons.
- Prepare better if you encountered high level threats.
- Take some basic materials back.
- Keep going back and forth, resupplying, while you keep all mined materials in a settlement or even your ship and then deal with the logistics when you think you emptied the area.
- You can avoid night time threats by going back through the portal and sleeping in your bed. If you die you can easely retrieve your corpse through the portal and go back to improving your base for a while to take a break.

Would you prefer the game beat itself? Where is the fun in a survival game with no danger? Of course they don’t let you skip that danger and of course you want to avoid dying, but you shouldn’t be blaming the game for forcing you into dangerous situations when that’s literally what the game is designed to do. There are plenty of mods out there that will turn on “easy mode” if you prefer to remove all danger in the game, but the devs intend for all vanilla playthroughs to deal with these challenges as that is where the fun in surviving is had

Building transportation networks I see. Yea I guess that if I don't cheat by using mod, then gonna have to do that. Oh well, more grinding.
