How to add a Sundial (clock) to your game.
Most of you probably already know how a sundial works, but adding it to the game may be tricky, so I figured I may as well explain how.
This is my bigger clock :

To make it work you need to just work in two factors.
1 - Work out where the sun rises and sets
2 - Make sure there is no other shadow being casted on the dial, this includes trees and structures.
I use the half circle dials as, well no sun at night and the moon cast isn't enough.
Place 3 floors in the direction of the sun rise (0) and fall (X) ( 0 --- X )and a 4th floor in the centre jutting out where the shadow should cast at midday ( O -I- X ), and place a pole in the middle of the half circle at the back where the line of floors is the longest (the diameter of the half circle).
Test the dial by just observing where the shadow is cast, when you are satisfied with the results you can add some detail, just remember not to add something that will cast a shadow on the dial.
Hope my explanations were helpful.
I made a smaller sundial playing with this idea :

i hope they do more systems where you can make silly stuff, like waterphysics would be cool, then you could make water wheels etc
but i guess they should actually finish the game first, hehe

The map is actually your sundial in a way. Face the direction that the sun is in and your direction is the point on the clock through the map(with N midnight and S being midday) on the map.
I know it aint really useful, but it makes for a nice deco item you can build.. the smaller clock I showed is in my 2 tier garden (lower tier and upper tier, lower for plants, top for seeds usually).
I mean if you really want to know the time, there is a mod that adds either a digital or simple clock.
I understand and wasn't trying to invalidate your decorating like that. I just was pointing out for folks who may not be aware of how to tell time without the use of a structure or a mod of course.

If you're into mods you could install BuildShare then upload the blueprint for others to use.

I gave it a quick try over lunch. Its very tricky to align say a blue banded shield but if you can, the segments of the shield offer an estimate on the horizontal axis instead of signs around it. But there is still no good way to mark a reference segment, and its a pain to get something stuck into it. All the building parts are just so darn big... I salute again your efforts, esp the small one.

Probably because the shield shadow is a bit much as a pointer, it would make a mess of the shadow cast as a pointer, but I can see the reason... the sexy hand the shield would cast would make for a decorative plus, it was a worthy attempt.
Dont forget you can add as much detail as you want when you get the basic's down so try different stuff, the flame at the top of the torch doesn't effect the dial... I just used it as a small pole in my small dial.
Have fun playing with the idea between heroic deeds and mead, its fun to play with the games 'stuff'.

very nice.
I wonder if you can use a shield on an item stand for this.
