I can't play this game until I can make a mobile base
I don't get why every survival game forces me to built a house. I play games like this to explore, and I don't want to get interrupted every 15 minutes to make a massive detour back to my house because my inventory's full or I have to make a crafting station.
Why can't I just put all this stuff in a boat? If my base was a viking ship that would be great. I could move it all around the world and severely reduce travel time.
This is why the only survival game I like is Subnautica. It had an extensive base building system, and it was really fun and cool, and I completely ignored it. Because you could put all that same stuff in a submarine and it was incredibly fun and convenient. I can't play a survival game unless it has that. Progressing to to the point where you can build a boat base is fine, preferred even, but the game needs to contain it.

Wouldn't fit this game at all, imo.
Portals exist so that you can get from place A to place B quickly (except with metals of course).
Boats are supposed to be a big part of the game, no doubt, since it's a viking game, but they're not supposed to be lived in or on. Nor would that make any sense in a setting like this. They can also transport what you can't teleport, as can carts.

Might I suggest mods, the Rafting Mod allows you to build a boat and sail around in your base

How does a houseboat fit into norse mythology and anything we know about vikings?
If you like to "explore" (read: pick up everything you see), get Valheim Plus, increase carryweight to 80 million tons, increase inventory size to 3000 slots and go on "exploring"
Problem solved.

Valheim does not force you to play a particular way, you choose how to play it. If you want to travel light, do so. A single tree gives you the wood you need for basic tool repairs.
But do not expect to be moving light and having above starting gear and food without planning.
Bases make things easier, but are not essential.

I'm doing a run where I'm basically doing this, I don't build any static base I keep all base building gear with me on a boat and cart setting up what I need when I need it temporarily from island to island
I used to run with copper and coal to make a forge to repair my stuff along the way (since almost all the other materials i can easely obtain in the enviroment), but now i just carry the stuff to do a portal to return, repair stuff and unload materials. Specially since metals weight too much and keep carrying 6 ingots of copper (because we cant portal them) and the forge and kiln need surtling cores (which also weight a lot). A mobile base would need also 10 tin for the cauldron and some bronze for the fermenters, plus the boat's materials, which is just not feasable on foot.
Although traveling with a cart is a possibility, the speed to pull it around makes it not worth it. And boats barely have any storage till you get iron nails, unless you do the trick of putting the cart in the boat.
All in all, if you carry a cart and have a boat with a cart inside (or just the big boat) you technically can have a mobile base as long as the boat dont break and you're willing to pull the cart around. That or carry materials to make 2 portals: one at the shore by the boat and another while exploring (but then that wouldnt be that different from just portaling around to your base)

1. The current balance goes out the window and would be a pain to get back if possible at all within reasonable effort.
2. The current gameplay loop is highly successful given the reviews and overall reception. While not perfect, you would mess with a successful formula by introducing a potentially gamebreaking/balance breaking new feature.
3. It doesn't seem to fit the vision of the devs - it's a Viking game, base building is a strong factor with farming and husbandry implemented.
4. Bases are fairly easy to move as they are and the voyage at sea is supposed to be about exploration and carrying material, as far as I can tell, while facing dangers and the risk of losing the ship, life and cargo. Players losing their whole base and progress would probably not something I'd like to moderate here.
There are probably more arguments against house boats and while I have nothing against the concept, it actually sounds pretty fun, I don't see it happening in this game, for good reasons.
edit: The ability to build portals allows you to skip a lot of travel time too. You just can't use them to grind metal. Which is perfectly fine for me. The way I do it is having an 'extra' portal in the homebase and carry portal materials on me to use when I want to unload stuff, get more food, just rest or log out.

Same reason you can't port metals. The head dev had a vision that included making everyone use boats. Even though boats suck.

Personally, I travel with the materials to make a portal. I just wish that I could put the portal directly on the boat.

And that's why I'll be installing the portal mod when I start playing again.
I can understand restricting ore because otherwise erryone would just spam portals errywhere and I can see how that could really cheapen the experience. But if I've taken the time to build a satelite base and refine the materials in the area and you tell me I can't take a hand full of ingots through a portal.... yeah hecc that noise.
Now what's going to get me to use boats is wanting to move massive amounts of materials or explore for new resources/areas. So they are still very relevant.
Which is kind of funny because the people who I remember defending the ingot restriction the hardest would NOT have their playstyle effected one bit if ingots could be teleported.
So when Hearth and Home drops my first stop is to check on what mods it didn't break and then cobble together a more enjoyable Valheim. I'll prolly keep ore restricted just so I'm not tempted but you can believe ingots will portal just fine. Along with whatever else tickles my fancy.

no mans sky has a portable base.
I don't see being able to craft a houseboat any time soon.
you can't win on that... say they did it... then you have 100000000 people rage quitting because 500 units of hard to get crap just landed at the bottom of the ocean because they alt tabbed out to watch ewetoob and a monster came along.

Raft's not a good example. There's no exploration in Raft, really. You don't move your base through the world, the world moves around your base.
