It is rocky soil underneath. If you can look around and see big rocks on top of the ground, you can bet there are some rocks under it. A rock does no smooth out from a hoe. When I use the hoe on a large hum and it doesn;t go down I use the pick 1 or 2 times to flatten it and smooth again with hoe.

YES, it is time-consuming but it works, When I get a low spot/ground sink that won't rise with hoe, I add some rocks and try to smooth over.

BTW, this is a very good idea when in the swamp as you never know if you are walking into a puddle or a deep pool. Raise the ground around the portal and make trails.

"Potholes" You mean places to build a gradient slope and place spikes in for the monsters to run into.

Yea, i did that. Then a couple days later the holes return.

I had a real bad time figuring a way to stop those nasty lumps that form in my roads. I soon came to realize that they are rocks. You have two effective options;

1. Lower the high humps with pick.
2. Raise the holes with rocks.

Just be careful adding rocks as you need to add and smooth before adding again or you create a washboard of lumps.

The terrain tools leave a lot to be desired. Too much terrain modification in one spot tends to make it rougher. It would be nice just to have a few steps of undo.

At this point I use the hoe with a very light touch only when I have to., like for a crop area. I have given up making anything like a road for a cart.. it just takes more work than it is worth. I tend to plan ahead and build bases close to resources anyway. So running a load back to process while I get more works out fine for me.

I feel your pain Bruh. I have no luck with level ground myself I just make do.

Try raising the ground a bit on those spots, then try to level.
