Mining ... so much mining ...

I've got the game a long time ago but I've stopped at some point, I did not remember why.

Now I do. I've been spending most of my time mining. It feels like with each tier, it becomes more tedious. (I'm at silver right now, which is the tier I was at the last time I stopped playing)
Up to the swamp, it's still fun. (Fighting monsters while digging through iron was a nice change compared to copper mining.)

But from the mountain, it feels more like a chore than anything else. It's like copper mining but worse : heavier loads, longer roads, ...
I've just got about 600 chunks of silver and had barely any fun mining them. (The search is kind of nice, but after that ... >_> )
The navigation in the mountain is not a lot of fun.
Getting poked at by these flying lizards every 30 seconds is not fun.
The wolves aren't much better.
At least the golems are more rare.
On another hand, the dungeons in the mountains are way better than everything else that came before.

I certainly hope the next tier is more like the swamp and less like the forest/the mountain

You won't ever need every single piece of gear from every single biome. You won't even have an opportunity to put them to use. But neither the game nor us can decide what is enough for your preferences.

Valheim + mod.

Use portals to teleport metal. Boom problem solved and you will still spend hours mining.. but eliminate the chore of transportation and spend time doing things you want to do.

Swamp war a bit of a relief, grind was actually quite easy.
Also like you, im at plains, so idk how that will play out yet.

But thats all this game has, sadly. 75%mining, 25% building n raiding dungeons on 1x.
Do i enjoy a lil bit of farming/grind? yes, but not what this game has.
Now on 4x, i moved my building/exploring/raiding to 70% and 30% mining stuff.
think i need to rebalance it to 3x, bit to little mining atm :))).

I will say a life saver is the cart. Bit boring the tug it after you, but it will save you many trips.
yeah i did the same, its so much better when u get more resources, i got another mod that reduces carry weight and increases stack size of items, so i can haul 150 copper at 150 weight for the stack, its great, i cant imagine playing the game normally, the pace with these mods feels really fun and i want to keep playing

You're in luck, because the plains doesn't have mining. Black metal is a loot drop, buuut...

You'll need to go back and get more iron. Black metal is mostly for weapons and tools, and flax and iron is for the armor.

You'd probably want to wear the root chest piece in the plains anyway because it protects much better against deathsquitos and spear throwers. Don't wear it for the boss fight though and watch out for those shamans.

You neither need a lot of silver nor black metal. I'm pretty sure 20 stacks of silver is more than you'll ever actually use. In my opinion only iron is needed in excessive quantities - especially if you want to build something fancy.

That being said Valheim is very grindy overall. Personally, I occasionally dupe some items to ease the grind, because clearing yet another field or crypt isn't fun for me. I've heard there are mods to reduce the crafting costs as well. I'd look into those in case I'll ever go for another Valheim playthrough.

Full armor and weapon sets?
Crafting is one of the few drives of the game.

Literally only one piece of armor is 20 silver. And weapons range from 2? for spear to 30 on sword.
How can you only use 20 silver? You wont survive the other biomes without the gear. They 1 shot you.
Just to get your starter silver gear and no upgrades you need about 150 silver.

You can swap items between worlds. At some point I had the same, done grinding. So I started a new world with my main character.
1. Main world
2. Mining world.

So, I stayed in the swamps with character in the Mining World and swapped to my Main World (in base) and dropped my inventory (ores) here.

20 stacks of silver = 20*30 = 600 "chunks of silver" OP has referred to. That's more than enough for a full armor set and a couple of weapons.

600 silver is way too much mining. No need to mine that much and I understand it bored you. I'd pace myself better in the future.

I honestly believe they need to add more ways to get iron.

For starters, more mobs in the swamp should drop iron bits occasionally. This would allow bold players to carefully get a bit of iron earlier. They we could access the stone cutter earlier so we can use stone walls before the raids that trash wooden bases. Just maybe this would encourage players to not moat every single base.

After you have access to the crypts there should be other ways to get iron as you progress and not just the [REDACTED] you find later. As in, there should be iron found in mountains and plains too.

there is a trick to mining.
If you "undermine" example a copper vain so it hang 100% free in the air and hit it 1 time.
It is more easy to mine all of the earth/dirt around the metal vaine vs mining the metal itself. your pickaxe last longer and its faster. Often the copper vain go deep below ground but most players dont see this.
Often there are allot more metal than most players discover in each vain.
Also what people also dont realize is that if you take the "wishbone" you get after defeading a boos then you can find iron and silver. Example you can find iron in the swamp area outside and not only in the crypt..
But yes later on it become harder to find example soft tissue that you mostly find inside the skull of giant skelletons scattered over the mistland biome.
There should also be some dwarf mining camps with soft tissue to mine but i never found any of them. In general mistlands just is tough due to the terrain and bad visibility.

ps. regarding being attacked by wolfs and such things in the mountain.. take some wood with you can build a protective wall around the hole you dig in.
tip. a good way to fight most creatures in the game is to block them with your shield and then hit them one time and repeat.
Also if you press C and crounch then if you hit something with the bow that have not detected you then you can one shot many animals.. Use your ears you can often hear the animals from quite far away.

That's kind of cheating in my book. I'd rather the game to be nice without feeling the need to do that.

Getting a full set of gear seems to be a minimum requirement.

It's not way too much mining. I believe it's a bit less that what I need.
That's beside the point though : a game is meant to feel fun or rewarding. This task doesn't fit that bill.

I'm fine with iron, the way to acquire it is enjoyable enough (basically raiding a dungeon) but for silver (or copper) ... gods.

For copper I usually dig at full depth. I basically do a quarry so I don't miss any of the copper blobs. It doesn't make it more fun (well, yes, at first, and copper is way faster and easier to obtain than silver)
