I hunt for the runestones and the abandoned farms and then put a portal in the center of a group (far enough away that it doesn't prevent spawning) and then just do an occasional tour until I get a 2 star boar.

Far Abandoned farms are pretty good places to encounter 2* boars

I think the wiki is mistaken on this. I'd keep checking, but put the portals a ways off. I also think you've a better chance of getting a **boar at night.

Yes. There is always at least 1 boar in each location when i make my tour (as long as it is a different game day). They are usually 0 star though. I've never found a 2 star boar at night (likely because they are harder to see). I found another 2 star boar yesterday. During the day and not near an abandoned farm or boar stone. I was actually in the plains that was bordering a small bit of meadows.

According to the wiki, the runestones are oneoff anyway, so no respawning.

But if there was respawning, the portal is a base structure and would stop spawning in a 20m radius.
