Tbh, I like Valheim, but I think the fishing is not interesting.

I would recommend New World for the fishing experience, though that game has other issues.

I'll add, though its a sort of exploit I think, if you lose a fish on your line when its only about 2-3m left, you can still dangle the line in the water and fish will be attracted to it regardless of distance, meaning that as long as the line still can touch water, you can pretty much instantly catch a fish. Do it fast enough and you can even catch a second before the line can no longer reach water.

Fishing is stamina based. Eat stamina food before fishing.

It was a big cave. At the bottom of one of two sets of steps down was a room with a stone golem. It was down there with him.

Only found a cave like that the one time. I was actually really surprised when I saw it sitting there tbh.

I got exactly ONE fish, after throwing my spear into a pond for like 40 minutes.

If you find a shallow area , in high sun you can see the fish behavior and learn how to fish

In the right spots you can illuminate the area with torches or what have you and go night fishing.

Actually... you can also acquire a fishing pole in the caves in the mountains. It's a bit down the road in progression, but is possible. I found one.

Fish are real creatures in the world. They can be looted by hand, trapped on the beach by terraforming a trap, or reeled in with a fishing pole from the trader.

Worst fishing mechanic I've ever encountered.

just my opionion and others may love it but as someone who has played a lot of games ofver the years that had some fishing skill that is my view on Valhiem's fishing mechanic.

My frined was able to catch more fish using his hands via the interaction key (default "e") than the other 6 players on my server combined. All of us tried it once we found the merchant and bought a fishing pole and all of us hate it. Including four of us with game dev experience.

The game needs some kind of craftable fish trap that you could interact with like the bee hives. Though there are improvised fish traps you can make if your really want cooked fish.
