I've not yet killed Eikthyr after 225 game days (like to be thorough, not rushed). But I have upgraded my workbenchs and tools/weapons/gear/etc. to level 3. This expands what you can craft and upgrade quite a bit. At this point my skill levels and weapons make every Meadows and Black Forest enemy that I've run into doable unless I let myself get gangbanged.
It's getting close to Eikthyr battle time though. Meanwhile I've marked bunches of ore locations for copper and tin. My goal is to completely uncover all there is to find on my starter island before I take on Eikthyr......and that island seems kinda BIG. lol

A few things you might want to do before you kill antler-head and start mining ore is to expand your bases area and dig a wide and deep moat around it. After you kill 1st boss and start on bronze age you will get visited by trolls and they cannot climb for ♥♥♥♥.

I pretty much went through that many days now and just killed the 5th boss. I thought I was being slow and thorough, what have you been doing?

Tin is found in small pockets of ore that look like rocks and line the shores of all Black Forest biomes. One or two whacks with a pick mines them.

Make the antler pick to mine copper ore from the Black Forest as well as tin. As soon as you mine tin and copper you get the recipe to build smelter and furnace for making coal from wood and turning ore into metal. Use the blacksmith table to combine copper with tin to make bronze. Bronze opens new recipes for weapons and armor.

Mining in Black Forest will open you up to troll attacks and troll raids. Bronze axe allows you to harvest fine wood from birch trees and core wood from pine trees. this will open new recipes for better bow, spear materials and building strength.

OK so I just came back from my first trip into the Black Forest and wow is there some dangerous stuff in there. There's these poison trolls, ones that throw stones at you, ones that are "brutes" and hit REALLY hard, and skeletons around the crypt that I was just in. I snagged 2 surtling cores but I need FIVE for a smelter. I found some tin but could not find any copper because I was running around like crazy trying not to die to the horde of trolls on my a$$, and still ended up dying in the river near my house because I drowned. But I did my corpse run and got all my stuff back. I guess just git gud, scrub?

Actually, i found my time in BF the most fun. You can farm the trolls and every crypt should have a few surtling cores. The crypts are pretty easy to clear as long as you use a blunt weapon on the skels and close door to prevent them killing u if necessary and rest and reopen it....the skels and other mobs NEVER open a door so you can basically whack a couple and back out and close it over and over. Each section you clear will stay clear as long as you clear all the mobs in the rooms one by one. The only respawn in the crypt is the yellow mushrooms that spawn daily and you will need later.

Find metal. Get metal. Make gains. Fist fight a pine tree. Argue with the sky. Make a sail boat. Burn seeds as offering and fight a giant tree like it's the second coming of Mayweather fighting his wife.

Yeah I don't think I was even mining in Black Forest yesterday, I think I was just in the starter forest. Gonna have to look on the map to see where I need to go. I think my seed put me on a small island without the forest nearby so I may have to take a raft over.

You will know when you are in black forest, just check your mini map, it should have a description of what biome you are currently standing in.

The copper viens are huge stones with well, copper viens on them. They are not just the surface. Each should net you about 100 copper if you fully dig them out. You'll need tin from the shorelines. The tall pines give you core wood. And you'll need to enter the burial crypts for surtling cores. The runestone for the location of the next boss will be in a crypt or next to a ruined tower.

In the forest you will see large stones with gold veins though them, don't worry there are quite a number of them around so you will see one withing a few minutes of looking. Smack them with the pick and you will get both stone and copper ore. The tin you'll find along the coastline i the forest too.

There are crypts in the black forest explore them and they will lead you to the next boss

Hint: when you're standing at a cooper vein and point to it, the cursor will say copper. No need to break random rocks.
