Lost loot.
He died, then left. I went into the game and didn't find the placemark on the map. I came to the place of death and did not find the loot.

Yes. There was definitely no marker, not even close.

Found. It was thrown very far from the place of death. I stumbled across it by accident.

If you press on the skull on the side of the map, your markers will disappear.

The marker, yes. If you press on the skull on the side of the map, your markers will disappear.
Not the loot/gravestone.
Just adding this to prevent confusion.

You dont see someones els location of death on the map, but you can find their tombstone.
However unless the player that dies does a great job of guilding you to the location, it might be hard to find.
The tombstone is rather small, and bushes and rocks can obstruct your view to it.
If there was a lot of momentum when dying, a tombstone can be placed somewhat away from where a player died. In the same way you can Yeet a greydwarf off a hill and see it explode only when it already rolled down hill.
One more thing to note; If a player died multiple times, without getting their loot back... You get multiple markers on the map, but only 1 tombstone that has all the gear.
If you die without anything on you, there is also no tombstone.

Sometimes they get knocked far away when you get hit, especially if you died on a hill.

Either your game crashed after your death, OR you ragequit the game without closing it properly.
That's why you see no tombstone.
